The air is magical.

Christmas is hitting a bit hard this year.

I’ve been a little quiet on here as we lost our Jack last week.
It was not unexpected as he was slowing down, but you can never fully be ready for the end of such a magnificent beast.

He was our North Star.
And the Rivercrest compass is broken.
It is impossible to imagine the farm without him.

He was the leader of our fold of cattle.

We bottle fed him, because his mother rejected him.
He was our baby.
He lived in my yard.
We invited him into the farmhouse.
We threw him birthday parties.
He was a huge lap dog.
He loved us unconditionally.

One can never forgot the moment he would appear for photo shoots on the hill.

“Jack. Jack. Jack.”
He would come thundering up the hill, ready for his photo shoot, and a chinny-chopper scratch.

Intimidating beast, with his 73” horn span….
But the gentlest of giants.

Life without him- I can not fathom.

I know he will forever be watching over this land.

Fourteen years ago this was all crazy dream.

This was a muddy, murky dumping ground behind the barn.
I would be mortified if any guests looked out there.
It was an unsightly mess.
There was a manure shed, complete with manure!
A potbelly pig, and a large fuel tank.

But there was this beautiful tree and spectacular views, and I envisioned a giant chess board, and stone steps on a great lawn.

My favorite saying is, “You have to start to finish.”

If you’re on the fence about starting something new, How will you know unless you try?

So just dream that CRAZY DREAM!
