MI37, het verhaal… (English below)

Ongeveer 15 jaar geleden produceerde ik samen met Glenn (Sykes) tal van nummers onder de alias ‘W4cko & Sykes’. Platen zoals ‘Drunk’, ‘Angels’ en ‘Into My Mind’ werden grijs gedraaid, vooral in The Oh! (hoe zou dat komen :D). Jammer genoeg kreeg Glenn in 2018 het verdict ‘kanker’. Boem, alles veranderde…

Na enkele maanden van behandeling vroeg Glenn aan mij om opnieuw wat zaken samen te gaan doen, kwestie van de tijd wat te doden, hij zat immers thuis door zijn ziekte. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan, we hadden het idee om opnieuw wat muziek te maken. Omdat we dit puur voor de fun wilden doen, zonder dat het publiek wist wie erachter zat, besloten we een nieuwe alias te verzinnen. De zoektocht naar een naam begon, Google search -> ‘comic characters’, en daar stootten we op de naam ‘MI13’. Goed, dat konden we niet zomaar gebruiken, dus gingen we op zoek naar een leuk getal. 37, dat klonk wel leuk, ‘thirty seven’. En zo geschiedde, MI37 was geboren.

De maanden vlogen voorbij, platen zoals ‘Tremble’ en ‘Aurora’ rolden uit onze computers. Ik herinner mij nog goed dat ik opeens telefoon kreeg van Glenn waarin hij vertelde: ‘Als alles goed gaat, word ik dit weekend genezen verklaard’. Super! Wij planden een feestje met bubbels!

Op vrijdag voor dat weekend kreeg ik opnieuw telefoon, ‘Wachem, het is niet goed, de kanker is terug’. Weg feestje en een klote gevoel erbovenop. Dat is de start (in mijn ogen) van de aftakeling. Helaas, in mei 2019 heeft de kanker gewonnen van Glenn. Ik verloor op slag één van mijn beste vrienden. Hij vroeg me de dag voor hij stierf: ‘Doe voort met MI37, laat het niet vallen’. Ik zei: ‘Oké, ik ga dat doen voor jou’.

De zoektocht begon… ik hou zowel van jump als hardstyle en ondertussen zat ik in een soort rouwproces en klonk alles mineur. Desalniettemin heb ik plaat na plaat gemaakt, maar het gevoel dat ik met Glenn had, dat was weg.

We zijn nu meer dan 4 jaar verder, en ik heb ondertussen het gevoel langzaam teruggevonden, en bij deze presenteer ik met trots een nieuw nummer met (voor mij althans) een vibe zoals vroeger met Glenn. Hope you like it!

MI37, the story...

About 15 years ago, I produced numerous tracks together with Glenn (Sykes) under the alias 'W4cko & Sykes'. Records like 'Drunk', 'Angels', and 'Into My Mind' were played endlessly, especially in The Oh! (wonder why :D). Unfortunately, Glenn received the diagnosis of 'cancer' in 2018. Boom, everything changed...

After several months of treatment, Glenn asked me to collaborate again, just to pass the time, as he was stuck at home due to his illness. So, we decided to make some music again. Since we wanted to do this purely for fun, without the audience knowing who was behind it, we decided to come up with a new alias. The quest for a name began, Google search -> 'comic characters', and there we stumbled upon the name 'MI13'. Well, we couldn't just use that, so we searched for another nice number. 37 sounded good, 'thirty seven'. And so it happened, MI37 was born.

Months flew by, tracks like 'Tremble' and 'Aurora' came out of our computers. I still remember vividly when I suddenly received a call from Glenn saying, 'If all goes well, I'll be declared cured this weekend.' Awesome! We planned a party with bubbles!

But on the Friday before that weekend, I received another call, 'Wachem, it's not good, the cancer is back.' Party canceled and a crappy feeling on top of it. That's the beginning (in my eyes) of the decline. Unfortunately, in May 2019, cancer won over Glenn. I lost one of my best friends. The day before he passed away, he asked me, 'Continue with MI37, don't let it fall.' I said, 'Okay, I'll do it for you.'

The search began. I love both jump and hardstyle, meanwhile, I was in some kind of grieving process, and everything sounded minor. Nonetheless, I made track after track, but the feeling I had with Glenn, it was gone.

Now, more than 4 years later, I've slowly found that feeling again, and now I’m proud to present a new track with a vibe like the old days with Glenn. Hope you like it!
