After being gone for a few days it is always fun to see what has changed on in the garden. Zinnias and gomphrena are still going strong, lisianthus are on their second flush, caryopteris is blooming, sedum and limelight’s are gorgeous. A lot of beautiful blooms to cut for the shop and a lot to share with the neighboring bees.

The hardest flower for me this year has been dahlias. The heat in august and drought were just too much. We’ll try again next year!!

I have never been the best at staking my plants and last night’s winds and thunderstorms played havoc in the garden. Luckily we knew it was coming and all the good stems were cut.

interestingly only part of my rudbeckia patch went down. It must have been the winds path. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze!

The craziest of my summer crops has been my basil patch. Thick, straight and bushy. Even the dogs playing in the garden hasn’t taken the plants down. Or did I just jinx myself!! Lol

A few scenes from around the garden as I was cutting this morning. I am shocked it’s mid April. It was 85 yesterday and I was questioning the planting of more spring flowers. One of my spirea is almost bloomed out already, the quince is almost past and bearded iris blooming! My next task - add more irrigation!!

I had previously shared some floral photos of my daughter’s wedding on but wanted to share more more details here.

The day could not have been more perfect and true to her style. A woodland ceremony under the lights and a rustic barn reception. The only cut flowers were in the ceremony. The reception florals were all potted material for sustainability. In addition, the kids brought in their love for baseball with fun details throughout such as seating, takeaways, guest books etc…. It all wrapped together beautifully and made for a completely personal event for susie and kevin!

It may be warm but the garden knows that autumn is here. I’ve planted a lot of winter hardy edibles where annuals were and cool hardy annuals will be going in as well. I may not have armfuls of flowers like large flower farmers but it so wonderful to be blessed with pretty cut flowers on a daily basis!!
