As we gear up for tonight's 6th Year Anniversary bash, we wanted to take a second to not just decode the numbers on this party flyer but also throw some love and highlight a small handful of moments that made our platform and crew what it is today.
Yeah, we've thrown over 200 shows and events since 2017, but Make Sure You Have Fun™ has shape-shifted over the years into the experience and radio platform in 2023. So, we're going to highlight a few moments that helped shape us.
Big shoutout and a huge thank you to our whole team, every volunteer, all of the amazing venues we've teamed up with, and an extra special thank you to you, our awesome patrons—you keep those lights on with your support. We wouldn't be here without you.
Let's dive into what we're calling "Over the Years."
Year 1 (2017-2018): Residency
After the success of events like FINESSE, Tall Tees, TILT, Clubhouse, "Drummer vs DJ" (aka ) and his run with , Make Sure You Have Fun™ was founded by Ryan “RB” Brown () as a way to organize and channel his curational energy into a single entity.
The first-ever Make Sure You Have Fun™ flagship event was at with and . The purpose of Make Sure You Have Fun™ was to create a party centered around Hip Hop, Trap & R&B in an open format space that we hadn't seen be super prominent in Pittsburgh, our founding city. The night went so well that Spirit offered us a residency on the 2nd Saturday in the Lodge that we still hold today. In the first year of hosting Make Sure You Have Fun™ as a party, we hosted DJs such as DJ Throdown, Kerim Tha DJ, Christo, Arie Cole, DJ FEMI, DJ Shoe, DJ Kingsong, Alex Rivera, Pete Butta, Seams, ms mavy, DJ Bamboo, 0h85, Jwan Allen, Pretty Tony, DJ Motormane, DJ Coleblooded, GUSTO, Davy Wreck, DJ Spillz, Oron Garcia, King Louie, DJ Big Phill, Selecta, DJ Nugget, JX4, Jarrett Tebbets, DJ ADMC, Naeem, DJ Inception, Thaiboy Digital, tj groover, Jubilee, SMI, DJ Yamez, DJ King Marie & DJ Nate Da Barber. We got it in.
Ended the first year under Vault and welcomed in in to celebrate a wild busy year.
Collaborated with The August Wilson African American Cultural Center, El Gallo, Fame15, Round Corner Cantina & Spirit
