It’s September and you know what that means — it’s King Coal Festival time!!!

Come out this Saturday to the Miss King Coal Pageant. This annual tradition showcases our community’s beauty at all ages. The pageant is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the historic Williamson Field House. Contact Gretchen Mahon for more information.

ENTER THE RACE TODAY
Purchase your ducks on our website (click the link below) or visit our booth at he King Coal Festival on Saturday, September 21. Join us at 4:00 on the Harvey Street Bridge to watch the race and cheer your duck to the finish line! (you do NOT need to be present to win)

The race will be held in the Tug Fork River during the King Coal Festival in Downtown Williamson at 4:00 p.m. on September 21, 2024. All ducks entered in the race will be dumped together, in mass, in the river upstream of the Harvey Street Bridge. The finish line will be under the Harvey Street Bridge. If river or weather conditions are not favorable to run the race in the river, a random drawing will be held. A prize of $300 cash and two tickets to ride the Hatfield & McCoy Airboat Tour ($120 value) will be awarded to the owner of the first duck to reach the finish line. The decision of the line judge will be final.

Highlights from the The HeArt of West Virginia and The Y'allternative Art Spot.
Expanded Summer Hours:
The Y’allternative Art Spot is now open from Wednesday through Saturday from Noon-5:00 PM. Local artists from Mingo, Logan, Pike, and Martin Counties are featured and we invite the community to take advantage of access to art supplies and vintage art toys. If you haven't visited Williamson's community art space, now have more opportunities.
Friday Night Music Club:
Starting Friday July 12, 6:00pm The Y'allternative Art Spot will be hosting a social club to discuss topics in music. We are opening with the topic of favorite verses and lyrics. We only ask that material be all-ages appropriate.
Poetry Reading with Hillary Hall:
Friday July 19th at 5:30 pm The Y'allternative Art Spot hosts local author Hillary Hall. She will be reading poetry from her new book "Creation in Chaos" which will be available for sale and signing.
Songwriter's Circle:
Saturday July 20th at 6:00pm The Y'allternative Art Spot will be the site of a unique performance combined with conversation. Local musicians and songwriters Glen Simpson, Thomas Jude Music, Brendan Hackney, and Hillary Hall will be playing their original works and be open to discussion regarding the song writing process. It's an evening dedicated to celebrating the art of songwriting.
Readings by Sabrina the Mountain Medium:
Sqaturday July 27th from Noon-5:00 pm. Sabrina Daniels, the Mountain Medium, will be holding readings on site at the Y'allternative Art Spot. The fee is $25 for readings.

Guys , Quick reminder. Next Saturday is the 25th annual Hatfield McCoy Marathon. Everyone in the road runners club is getting everything lined out etc. I’ll be Dj at matewan by the depot from 7-11am that morning. Also. If u don’t follow our Williamson Events Committee page, u need to do so as we post updates, upcoming events etc.

With that being said, Our Events Committee is already in the process in making the 2024 King Coal Festival another amazing one. Follow our page for details n updates

Our annual covered electronic devices (CED) collection event will take place Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mingo County Courthouse employee parking lot located on Court Street in downtown Williamson. You can access the location from First Avenue. There is no charge to drop off your electronic devices.
