SERVICES: "Bedside music" for individuals and programs for senior facilities or groups. MISSION: To enrich and enhance seniors’ quality of life with comfort, joy and a connection that only music can provide. THE POWER OF MUSIC: The therapeutic benefits of music are well documented. Music therapy has been an established medical practice since the 1950s. Research has shown all of the ways in whic
h music benefits patients. Studies show that music is one of the most popular and effective ways to stimulate reminiscing. Hearing a song that brings back memories sweeps us away to another place and a happy time, when we were younger and perhaps more full of life. ABOUT ME: My name is Ted Stillwell and I have been a professional musician for over 40 years. I have been sharing my music with seniors in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and adult day care facilities since 2007. I have seen seniors – otherwise unresponsive to the world around them – light up when they hear music, sometimes their lips moving as they gently sing the words. For a short time, they break free from their isolation and sadness. And my life is enriched by the utter joy I feel interacting with them. I love singing to seniors and spending time with them. MY SERVICES:
“Bedside Music” for Individuals: Music makes a special gift for a senior who is ill or confined. I provide one-on-one sharing of live music and time when I bring my guitar, play, sing and converse. Song requests can certainly be accommodated. Music sessions are typically one hour in length. They can be one time or at scheduled intervals. Senior Facilities or Groups: Programs can be customized for facilities that wish to add some magic to the day of their residents, their families, and those who care for them. I typically bring my digital full background sound system to provide singing and sing-alongs enjoyed by seniors. FEES: I work with individuals and activity directors to establish session rates that work for everyone. Rates are affected by travel time and distance. THE GIFT OF MUSIC: To explore the possibility of bringing the gift of music to your facility or a senior in your life, please contact me by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at (218) 854-7285.
