I've been ruminating and working on this arrangement for weeks trying to get the oranges right, and....I love it! Glad to have it ready for the Adler Festival of the Arts tomorrow. But, one question remains: to add greenery, or not to add greenery? Let me know what you think in the comments!
Whew! Been a busy bee after the Glenview Art Fair restocking and designing some fun new arrangements to return to the Adler Festival of the Arts this weekend in Libertyville! Love doing this local festival (as well as the Mundelein Art Festival in Sept.) for the local faces that sometimes pop into my tent. Hope yours is one of them!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Here in Glenview until 5pm today, and they took the chance of rain out of the forecast for tomorrow! 🙌🏼

Not gonna lie, it was PRETTY toasty today at the Fine Art Fair in Naperville. But it wasn't rainy, and that's what mattered! Tomorrow looks like a beautiful, sunny 72 and I am definitely looking forward to it! Head on over to the from 10-5 for a really cool variety of vendors to browse, not to mention the lovely settlement itself! And check out the amazing floral acrylic artist's () work across from my booth! I stared longingly at her gorgeous poppies painting all day today! 😍😍😍

I can't believe I forgot to post my Plant of the Year: the mini Japanese Peace Lily! This is my first "flowering" plant in my mini plant line, and I couldn't be happier with it. It may not oxygenate the room, but it does help you think, relieves stress, and it's needs are simple. 😄 Look for it in a few weeks at the Naperville Fine Art and Artisan Fair!
Sadly, daffodil season is done. But I couldn't resist making one last potted cluster on this rainy June 1st. Look for it at my next summer art fair at the end of the month in Naperville!
The 2024 Flower of the Year is.....the Magnolia! 🎉
I have wanted to design this flower for a few years now, but typically do not work with paints or other colorings as part of my design process. But I broke out of my pattern for the magnolia which I've always loved. Their creamy, big petalled softness remind me of my college days, and though I love the pinkish/purple variety, the classic white with their alternating brown and green leaves are so elegant, too!
The first chance at these beauties will come later this month at the Prairie Arts Festival in Schaumburg in two weekends! I will be busy making them until then. Hope to see you there!
Tomorrow is the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week, and here at Paper Perennial, I of course have a soft spot for everyone in education, but especially for teachers. This time of year, teachers are balancing so many plates, and I remember many from my time as a high school teacher: planning end of year celebrations, preparing and supporting stressed out students for AP testing, working with students to finish strong (or just crawl to passing), attending graduations, navigating Prom drama, and battling a myriad of distractions in general to help students stay on track.
I received a message from a student who graduated 4 years ago today and it made my morning. No matter your age, I strongly, STRONGLY encourage you to take a few moments before the week is over to reach out to a teacher you appreciate, either yours or maybe your child's. Maybe you're connected on social media. Maybe you find their email address on a school website. Maybe they're on LinkedIn. I can absolutely guarantee you that their hearts will be full to hear even a sentence from you, even if you haven't talked to them in 20 years. Just do it. Teachers don't hear thank you, a real thank you, anywhere often enough to keep them going.
What a wonderful Sunday at in ! I couldn't have asked for a better group of makers to absolutely rock the anemone workshop! So many beautiful flowers were made. And Sammy's beauty salon/boutique at Bohemia is GORGEOUS! 😍. Talk about ; she is knocking it out of the park over there. I look forward to more workshops in her space in the future!

Paper Perennial is taking a break! Well, sort of.
I will be closing down my Etsy shop tonight until April 25th. With such an exciting and numerous number of art fairs coming up this summer, I decided I needed to take some time to focus on getting all stocked up! Most of the time, everything I'm making is made to order fresh. But with the lineup of shows starting in May, as well as time needed to prep for my Anemone Class (tickets on EventBrite) on 5/5, I need some inventory!
So, if you were thinking about making a purchase, please do so by tonight! Though, full disclosure, I won't be starting on any new Etsy orders until after the 25th, so the shipping times will be adjusted.

I'm putting the finishing touches on my 2024 New Flower Design of the Year and am pretty psyched (last year was the zinnia)! I know what you're thinking, "But Laura, I didn't even SEE anything about this class!!" Well, that's fair, but I'm doing a Valentine's paper anemone flower class downstate next month at the and registration filled up (with a wait-list!) before I even had a chance to post that it was happening! 😯. Really excited to be debuting this new class with the East Peoria community.

Excited to be a part of this lovely community event in Lincolnshire! Come out and support Ms. Vincent and the students of Daniel Wright Junior High at their Book Tasting event in two weeks! They are raising money for the students at Alfred Novel Elementary in Chicago to get more books for their school and personal libraries by organizing this event in which a small dish will be prepared as a representation of the many books being featured by students. In this way, every participant will taste the books; isn't that neat? There will also be a winter craft market (which I will be participating in and have made a number of one-of-a-kind literary themed arrangements for), literary themed games, and guest speakers. A portion of all of my sales from the evening will go to support the purchasing of books. Great for families or a nice Monday night out to start your week off on a feel good note. 📚📖❤️
Things have been a little slow the past week, and today is a rainy dreary day in Chicago (could we get a little snow, maybe, Mother Nature?). But, happily, for the first time in, gosh, well over 10 years, I'm finally sending out Christmas cards, and this was the last batch! And before Christmas, even! It's a great way to be reminded of the people who I want to stay connected with, both friends and family. If you don't get one from me and thought you would, it's probably because I don't have your address! Or I have it wrong and I sent your card to a stranger. 😒. Send it to me, and maybe you'll get one next year; this year I'm bushed!

Great for friends, mother/father-child time, solo crafters, and crafters of all levels (this is a great beginner craft for anyone who is a little nervous)! Tickets will close Friday at midnight!
