Today marks a very special day that I am thrilled to get to celebrate with all of you! On this day ten years ago, I founded Mandell Experiences LLC. It came to be more than an events company. It became a purpose, enriching people’s lives with joy and memories and turning bold ideas into inspiring experiences. It became an identity, embracing entrepreneurship, the painstaking hustle and breathtaking rewards that come with this roller coaster of a chosen path. It became a passion, getting to make a career out of doing what I love. From bootstrapping to freelancing at the Olympic Games, from deep water soloing comps to multi-day tech conferences, from a pandemic that disrupted everything to buying a house and starting a family, I take this moment to reflect on this incredible journey and the amazing clients, vendors, and attendees I’ve had the privilege of working with and serving. This would all not be possible without you. Thank you! I am excited to navigate into this next chapter with an arsenal of experience and expertise and a stronger focus on event design, leaning into the creative, strategic step zero of event craftsmanship. While my primary focus is on my full-time job as a Senior Program Manager producing and assisting events at Microsoft, I am grateful for their moonlight policy and remain available for consultative work and onsite gigs. ❤️

Happy New Year! 2021 had its ups and downs, but overall I'm feeling immense gratitude for the highlights. Top 5:

1. Starting a contract with Microsoft as Event PM and getting assigned Lead PM for one of Microsoft's flagship events!
2. Watching Sport Climbing's debut at the Tokyo Olympics and feeling immense pride when Nathaniel Coleman took silver for USA
3. Mandell Experiences turning 6 years old!
4. Putting effort toward my mental health as well as my physical health, doing PT daily and fixing my chronic back pain of 17 years!
5. My boyfriend moving in with me!

Very curious to see the results of this scientific trial. Linking COVID tests to tickets is an interesting strategy. A huge thanks to the participants and an excellent overview of the importance of events in our lives.

In Liverpool, people danced together at a warehouse party as part of a scientific trial of how and if social distancing can safely end.

I've never run an Ultimate tournament (surprisingly), and my business model does not include owning events. Nevertheless, I found this article about the economics of Ultimate tournament organizing fascinating. Having managed event budgets up to a quarter million for the past decade, here are my 5 contributions to the conversation:

1) As an event organizer, if you're just in it for the money it won't be satisfying work
2) Regarding staff and vendors, you get what you pay for and it is important to compensate people for their time and the value they bring
3) Adding customization to ticket pricing can allow people access to the experience they want (opt in or out of swag packages, dinners, after parties, etc.)
4) Costs do go up for annual events - it is unrealistic to expect to pay the same every year as an attendee.
5) There are under-leveraged sources of incomes for both events to keep costs low AND teams to help meet rising costs. I'm still figuring out how COVID has changed the sponsorship landscape, but brands have something to gain from strategic partnerships and, done right, events and team partnerships can support their business goals.

It can't be stressed enough the devastation the live events industry has faced. These are well thought-out relief requests. COVID has shown how important events are to our society, economy, and even our mental health. This relief would support the people and businesses who make it all happen. PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE!

The pandemic has caused an unprecedented number of event cancellations in the US. The Covid-19 virus is unlike anything we have faced in our modern economic times. The purpose of this letter is to sound the alarm on a massive economic catastrophe that is transpiring in our nation. Please share.

A HUGE win for Sport Climbing! To highlight the significance: Tokyo 2020 was just a trial event for Sport Climbing. Its inclusion in Paris 2024 was not guaranteed (let alone with more medals). The deadline to decide Sport Climbing's inclusion in Paris 2024 was this year, meaning the IOC did not have a chance to observe how it went or was received at Tokyo 2020 because of the COVID postponement. It therefor says a lot about the legitimacy of our sport and the incredible efforts of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and other stakeholders that the IOC would decide to keep Sport Climbing for the following games (which happen to be in PARIS!) AND provide more medals, meaning that the Speed discipline can become its own event and talented Boulderer's or Lead climbers won't be kicked out of Olympic contention just because they're poor at speed, or vice versa. So excited! Allez l'escalade!

Sport Climbing has been official included in the Paris 2024 Sports Programme!

Sixty-eight climbers will compete in FOUR total medal events: Speed and a combined of Boulder & Lead.
