To all my followers from the Wednesday night Kenmore Tavern InnQUIZitive crowd - I'm devastated to hear that your weekly trivia night has suddenly ended after so long. Read on for options of what to do next.
I believe it was late 2010 when I first wandered into The Kenmore Tavern and observed the trivia night going on. Weeks later I joined in for the first time. Later I assembled my own team, and over time the format changed, hosts came and went, and in March 2016 I took up the mic for myself to run the event nearly every week for the next nine years. Two teams have stuck it out and put up with me that whole time, and countless more have racked up years of attendance.
Alas, if you weren't present this week, you may not have heard from Ryan that the Wednesday night trivia is being discontinued at The Kenmore, effective immediately, ending a more than 15 year tradition. All good things must come to an end, and we say goodbye some of the things we love and bravely look to the next... (Yes, yes, you're very flowery and poetic Caleb, get to the point!)
If you're not ready to disband the team yet, here's some suggestions for quizzing into the future:
1. STICK WITH INNQUIZITIVE
If you love the format, you'll find InnQuizitive a few minutes up the road at the Bellbowrie Tavern on Tuesday nights. I believe that Ryan - whom you now all know and love - will be taking up the role of host there soon, so you'll have the comfort of the same style and the same host, just on a different day.
2. STICK WITH KENMORE
If the idea of moving to an unknown venue scares you, then you can continue to quiz at The Kenmore on Thursday nights. The BrisQuiz format is considerably different to InnQuizitive, so there might be an adjustment period as you get used to a new style of question, but I promise to look after you! The downside is a potential lack of space, and a bookings system that routinely denies new teams a table unless booked 8 weeks in advance! But just turn up if you're keen and we'll try to accommodate.
3. STICK WITH WEDNESDAYS
If the team is only available on Wednesday nights then those other two options just won't work! On Wednesday nights you'll find me running the BrisQuiz format at Fair Play Kitchen (part of the Sherwood Magpies AFL Club) in Chelmer. There's plenty of room for new teams and it's only about 7 minutes from Kenmore.
With all these options, there's always the sad possibility that perhaps some teams will chose this time to quietly disband and seek new things. To those teams who are now parting ways, be kind to one another and I wish you all success in your new social endeavours.
Stay well, everyone, and stay curious.
