AAPI Culture Fest 2024 Artist Spotlight: Aly Chen

Aly is a multidisciplinary artist and tattoo apprentice from Colorado. The current focus of her practice examines the intersections between cultural traditions, tattooing, and storytelling. Between paintings, she continues to study and write about tattoo cultures around the world. Aly’s personal work also explores a variety of contemporary and historical references, often reflecting upon her Taiwanese-American identity. Her curiosity and love for experimentation brings her to punch needling, handmaking earrings, and printmaking. Outside of the arts, she is a bookworm, growing yogi, avid hiker, and baker of all things sweet.

AAPI Culture Fest 2024 Artist Showcase: Stephanie Kang

Stephanie Kang (she/they) is an art historian, artist, and curator who specializes in contemporary art with a focus on new media art and theory. She received an MFA in Visual Art from Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD in the History of Art from the Ohio State University. As an artist, her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and she has also organized several exhibitions in her previous role as the assistant curator at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. Currently, she is an assistant professor of art history at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

We are excited to invite Colorado-based artists to submit work for a one-day art show, "Reclaiming and Celebrating AANHPI Identity," as part of the community Lunar New Year celebration at McNichols Center in Denver on February, 3, 2024.

On June 2, 2023, Colorado recognized Lunar New Year Day as an official state holiday, marking a significant milestone in celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage.

To mark this historic occasion, the Denver Asian American Pacific Islander Commission (DAAPIC), in collaboration with other Colorado AAPI organizations, is proudly hosting a free, family-friendly Lunar New Year celebration. We extend an open invitation to artists, ranging from students to professionals, to participate in our one-day group art show, which serves as a tribute to the diverse cultural traditions and identities within the AANHPI community.
