The initial premise behind Frontiers was to make DJ mixes that were more than just a weekly/monthly showcase of the latest music - I wanted to make something people (including myself) could enjoy listening to again and again. While the formula for that has undergone revisions and iterations over the last 49 episodes, the underlying principle hasn't.

For this month's episode, I wanted to experiment a little. Rather than have one downtempo track, why not have...four? Instead of starting at 120bpm, why not start around 100? Variety keeps things interesting, and this was a REALLY fun challenge for me to put together that I think serves as a pleasant deviation to listen to from my norm as well.

My music studio situation at home has been turned upside-down the last four weeks due to some construction, so I grabbed my travel DJ controller and sat down in a hot room that has terrible acoustics to crank this one out. 2023 continues being chaotic for me into April...which is why I'm once again a week late on this Frontiers episode. That said, the extra time gave me a chance to try out some new techniques in the mix, so there are more cuts, more effects, and an even smoother intro and outro than normal. As icing on the cake, I managed to squeeze in my brand new remix coming out on Landscapes Music in May, so stay tuned for that as well.

We're ending 2022 on a bang. This final mix of the year features every facet of progressive music that I've been known to play, including progressive breaks, melodic techno, several forms of progressive house, and even a little bit of trance. There's a great combination of styles here, and they all blend well together.

It's November and there's already snow on the ground, at least where I live in Colorado. I've always loved the aesthetic of winter, and I think the first half of this episode of Frontiers is a great soundtrack for a nice drive down a snowy road...even if the second half predictably gets rather more energetic. This one is smooth as silk from start to finish, and hopefully a memorable one too!
