Having to shorten a dress is a common alteration for Brides. Then, what should we do with the lace offcuts?

Lace offcuts refashioned into bespoke bridal accessories for the bride or bridal party add a unique style to the wedding party’s look.

What’s Next?
Bring the lace offcuts and other materials you’d like used in the design to your appointment. A note: Your appointment is an exclusive one-on-one appointment. At the appointment, we will decide on the design that reflects your style. Orders can take as little as 2 weeks up to 12 weeks, depending on the design.

Ever wonder what’s behind the scenes?

Refashioned bridal accessories are a favorite at the Boutique. Creating heirloom keepsakes is nostalgic, adds the bride’s style to the wedding day look, and pays homage to the women in her family. Here’s the design process.

In the first photo, the bride is wearing a lace hair comb made from her Mom’s wedding dress. The second photo shows the first appointment when she brought in her mom’s wedding dress. Here, we figured out which lace sections to use and also the style for the hair comb.

Next, only the sections of the dress that will be used in the design are deconstructed. The goal is to save as much of the dress’s design as possible for other possible heirloom keepsakes.

My favorite part comes next. Presenting a sample for fitting and adjusting the design as the bride wishes. Once approved, the refashioned lace hair comb is wrapped in archival tissue paper and carefully placed in a beautiful box, all ready for the wedding day 💖

The past ten years have been both a gift and a joy for me in making bespoke designs that complete a bride’s look and tell her story. A good way to clean the pine cones is to soak for an hour or so in a vinegar (1/2 cup) and water (3 quarts) bath.

An important cause for our community ⤵️

📢 WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Pictured are Melissa Vobr, Director of Kessel Kids; Amy Swagel, Director of Elma Early Childhood Center; and Sonda Niewoehner, Director of Spring Ahead Learning Center. They and others are asking for the community’s help to address childcare needs in Howard County.

Families in Howard County along with other counties throughout the state and nation are faced with the lack of child care options and childcare centers struggling to attract and retain employees. The Howard County Child Care Coalition is working to address this and created the Howard County Coalition Fund. It has designed as a wage enhancement program to address the challenge of child care staffing without increasing tuition or passing along additional costs to families. It has been funded by local donations and grants. This model not only improves the sustainability of our childcare centers but also increases the number of children served which is vitally important for our workforce.

These funds have been extremely important to the recruitment and retention of child care staff within Howard County this past year. Kessel Kids in Cresco, Spring Ahead Learning Center in Lime Springs, and the Elma Early Childhood Center have benefited from the fund. As of the end of October 2024, $223,645 has been distributed to three childcare centers in Howard County. The centers have been able to remove 20 children from their waitlists, add 21 new employees, and retain 59 employees. This fund is working!

The Howard County Child Care Coalition’s goal is to raise $100,000 annually as ongoing support with 100% of these contributions being invested back into our communities’ child care centers. Child care is the foundation for working families. Without the sustainability of this fund or other childcare solutions, they will not be able to sustain our child care organizations without a significant increase in child care tuition rates, potentially adding to our workforce challenges.
