This is tough. CP was a good one.

Many years ago, I had a short-lived Monday night residency at The Cavern on Lower Greenville. I had the task of taking over the night from DeeJay CeePee. I printed some flyers and went up there to promote that I would be there the following week. As soon as I walked in the room, I heard Chris yell out, "HOLY S**T, IT'S EL MACHO!" Yes, El Macho, the stupid name that I came up with in younger, drunker days that I cannot escape. I suppose I should embrace it, but I usually just like to be DJ Joel now.
Anyway, I was shocked. He knew who I was!?! That was wild to late-20s me. I remember he played "Ooh La La" by The Faces, as he had just become a father for the first time. He had a big smile on his face. You know the one.

My heart is with everyone who is hurting right now. Blast some Alice tonight in his honor.

Thank God for Chris Penn.

It was 11 years ago tonight that what is now Movement Music Club launched.

I still believe in this concept. It works in other cities. I know there is an audience for this music in DFW. It’s just a matter of finding them and coming together.

To everyone that has played a part over the last 11 years, thank you. I am forever grateful. I plan on celebrating today at Rhythm & Relics. I hope you will join me. Let’s make it a Britpop Brunch. A champagne supernova, if you will. Hmm, Britpop Brunch doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Who’s up for it!?!

“This is the first Pulp album since We Love Life in 2001. Yes: the first Pulp album for almost 24 years. How did that happen?

Well: when we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called Hymn of the North during soundchecks & eventually played it at the end of our second night at Sheffield Arena. This seemed to open the floodgates: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album during the first half of 2024. A couple are revivals of ideas from last century. The music for one song was written by Richard Hawley. The music for another was written by Jason Buckle. The Eno family sing backing vocals on a song. There are string arrangements written by Richard Jones & played by the Elysian Collective.

The album was recorded over three weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18th, 2024. This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record in the modern era. It was obviously ready to happen.

These are the facts.

We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process.

This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey.

This is the best that we can do.

Thanks for listening.”

The Divine Comedy announced a new album today. "Rainy Sunday Afternoon" will be released in September. The first piece from the album, an introspective song called "Achilles", was released today.

It has that classic Divine Comedy sound. I'm sure the rest of the album will not disappoint. What do you think of this one?
