“In 2007, a year after his passing hosted the first Changed My Life party.

This party was at capacity with a queue down the street an hour after doors. I remember one guy putting £20 in the pot even though he couldn’t get in. To find there were so many of us that felt for that way literally changed my life.

I would have laughed had you told me then we’d be throwing the last event 17 years later after parties in London, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton and even Moscow hosting DJ Lok Harry Love and probably loads more (sorry if I’ve missed you).

Today on Dilla’s 50th birthday my heart is full knowing we made a difference to so many. I can’t thank those that have performed, partied, promoted, designed & played any part over the yers enough. Together we raised over £100,000 for charity meaning J Dilla not only changed many lives.

I am not one to reflect too long on achievements, preferring to learn and keep it moving but this felt like the right time to pause. While I’m proud of this all what brings me the most satisfaction is my relationships this party formed, specifically that with Dilla’s mum .

Despite her calling me out live on stage last year for planning to stop a year before her son’s 50th Bithday our friendship is something I cherish dearly.

While she made it clear I could not stop last year the people I spoke to on Sunday and messages I have received since have made it clear there are loads of us that want to continue to celebrate Dilla and great music. With that in mine we have a new party announcing today so we can continue to do so and will continue to donate proceeds of that event to relevant causes. Look out for
