😥😥
In the light of the government’s Monday 4 Oct announcement, it is with doubly heavy hearts that we have had to make further reductions to our 2021 festival offering.
We held on tightly to a spark of hope that we might have been able to safely gather as a community, but sadly, we continue to face too much uncertainty. With the current strategy roll out, it is unlikely that Whakatū will be back to an alert level in time for us to be able to safely deliver our vision. We have therefore made the tough decision to cancel most of our remaining programme, including the Mask Carnivale, the Pukapuka Talks literary programme, Night Vision, PechaKucha and Couch Stories. All ticket holders will be contacted for their full refunds asap.
Our visual arts offering will remain, and we are grateful to be able to move 2 conversations from our Pukapuka Talks programme to a free, online format: The Mirror Book, and Once Were Hippies.
You can find a full list of which events have been cancelled, and which we will be to proceed with, on our website: nelsonartsfestival.nz
We know that these are heart-breaking news for everyone involved, and we thank you all wholeheartedly for your understanding and support.
Until we can see you all again to connect in person, please take care, arts lovers. Treat yourselves to a gallery visit or a book, attend an online show or book ahead for concerts and theatre shows - while big gatherings may not be possible right now, the arts will remain and return.
As always, remember to be kind, look after each other, wear your mask, use the tracker app…you know it. Arohanui 💙
