Lenkaland Photography Disabled artist that photographs for history, for humor, for our families and friends. Cancer survivor with CMT, I take occasional commissions. We love the fair!

Have an idea or session request? I love friends old and new ❤️ I document family, nature, and storytelling. Adventure is more fun when I bring a camera along. The camera goes (almost) everywhere with me. I photograph a small number of sessions, weddings, and events. This allows me to dedicate time to each family and event. My idea of success is working with folks that have similar values. Those va

lues include curiosity and a sense of adventure. With appreciation for laughter :)

I believe in quality over quantity. I want to make art, celebrate life, and connect with people who become friends. Before anything else, I consult with you to be sure that I am the best person for your vision. Every session includes an online gallery with tutorials, ongoing support after delivering images, album design, and more. I won awards from Artist World Magazine and others, including a Blue Ribbon for Professional Photography at the Nevada County Fair. My images have appeared on HGTV, The Celebration Society, Buzzfeed, the Skin Wars Show, and more. Lenka is a contributing artist to Cavan Images. I fall down rabbit holes of nostalgia when I look for photos to share. One photo leads to another that leads to a series, and then I'm holding a string of memories like pearls. Nowadays, I also notice my photography quests. What inspired my artistic eye? Here, the pop of color. And then smaller things, his orange water bottle, his baseball hat that he wore daily. All things that hardly mattered yet connect as meaningful details now. Allow yourself not to micromanage every image. Let the "junk" stay on the table, let kids hold things, show the everyday trinkets. Those ordinary things become fascinating as time passes. And, oof, I don't have an answer for my rabbit holes of nostalgia. But it makes sharing with you a lengthy project 😂 I knew that my mobility would fade, and the kids wouldn't be kids forever, so I appreciate my extensive library. I have no shortage of images to explore!

Today is National Motivation and Inspiration Day! May your motivations be joyfully your own. We visited Death Valley years ago. And we had an idea. What would it look like to babysit Grogu, for a week or so? I believe we got the idea when we saw a realistic little Grogu. Anika has a lightsaber (of course). And what landscape looks more other-worldly than Death Valley? We had great times creating these stories as we took photos. And I value Archipelago Presets for their monthly Quest program, where I can make images look like distant snapshots. We had fun. And isn't that what motivation and inspiration is all about? Happy New Year! May this year bring light, color, and adventure to you and your family and friends. I know years bring change. I hope that we all travel safely. Do you choose a word of the year? I have an idea, but it's not my for-sure choice yet. I am feeling more creative and willing to share these days, which feels like fresh air and a mountain sunrise. I hope to keep sharing images from times when I could travel more and adventure more. It's okay, we move differently, and we can inspire one another through all the journeys. Happy new trails to us all ❤️

What would you say to your younger self? Here’s me, New Years 2016 with a fluffy Chewbacca. What would I say to her? I wouldn’t share details, actually. I’d tell her that she’s so loved, strong, resilient, and scrappy. That this little dog is going to be there, he’s going to learn to alert to anxiety spirals, dissociative spells, and exhaustion. I wouldn’t say anything about the pandemic or cancer. I’d say, “I’m here for you. Yes, major challenges. But also, major joys. You two are my heroes.” What about you? Would you tell your past self details? Or feelings? I know she’s going to walk through fire. Heck, still walking through fire. And it’s all worth it.

Also, side note, New Year’s photobooths are epic. I put a camera on a tripod and either set it to 5 seconds, so people could press the shutter and get in front of the camera. Or, later, a remote trigger. The best collections through the years!

Feeling outdoor vintage autumn vibes with cozy campfire and golden leaves The is the perfect place to spend autumn afternoons with a warm cozy campfire and a beverage of your choosing and a camper for those cool nights. There are openings available for people who appreciate this time of year and all the opportunities in the area with Christmas fairs, and boutique shopping, and yummy food. Prom 2020. The scariest of them all. Third week of March. And not her prom dress. She never got to wear one. We took the series of skull adventures in the months leading up to the pandemic. Not knowing, maybe sensing. These images in our damaged (at the time) pool feels like such the history. Everything we went through. The pandemic, the upending of sudden, sweeping change, the losses and cumulative emotions of it all, the greatest slow motion horror story of my lifetime. Hopefully for a few lifetimes.

She finds a friend, which may be a beautiful adventure, finally connecting with a like-minded soul, or it could be an absolute disaster. For us. They are so old school that windows are boarded up and halls are deserted. Except for them. Hopefully they are enough. And stay here, away from us.

Behind the scenes- we talked to the owner of this property before entering or taking photographs. And we had one mask. So our third friend, not photographed, walked the mask between them and I put together a composite in . It was early days of learning, I had fun creating the scenes with light-hearted skull-wearing monsters. Friendships make the journey a not-monstrous adventure.

Ever have one of those days where you realize that the appointment you thought was tomorrow is actually today and you need to drive an hour to get there and you realize your mistake about two minutes before you’re supposed to be leaving the house so you scramble to get out the door and you get out the door and you’re six minutes late and everything‘s OK but you’re still scattered in your mind and then you drive home? And you have a moment contemplating “This is my circus, these are my monkeys.” And you’re losing monkeys? Yeah, me neither 😂 Keeping track of appointments not my strong suit this week, but that’s OK. Still getting through one day at a time. Wishing you good memory for all of your appointments and meetings and hopefully fun activities.❤️

Even in warm seasons, her coziness inspires me. She wears all knitted clothing, from her curly hat to her textured skirt. I imagine the forest on a cool early morning, light cresting through the trees, her path scented with pine needles, dew heavy on flower petals. She's cute 🩵AI is amusing. In this case, the original image showed the arms in front of her wings. I thought that selecting that part of the sweater and replacing it with a wing would be easy-peasy. Ah, no, AI is tricksy. The first try included "match fairy wing". Whelp, it got the match 😂. I know AI doesn't interpret images the way we process information., "Fairy wing" might be gobblygook. I tried "Fix hair" at the border between the hair and the new wing. Very well done with the tiny comb! The comb will fix her hair, I'm sure. AI prompts require creative thinking for finished images. The prompts must be so literal and also super needy of details. I prevailed, and I love this lovely knitted imaginary Forest Fairy inspired by . The original is the last of this series. Sending you good prompts for good days 🧚🏽🧚‍🧚‍♀️🩵

March rains lead to Roses-by-any-other-names…? Uh, it’s a work in progress. But raindrops on roses are one of my favorite things (real)(true). And I can feel that hint on spring in this rainstorm. Soon, roses, soon. And tap for full image and B&W, because I love how color writes stories, and how black and white writes poems (for me).

Surprise visitor in our pool! Never seen a bear in our neighborhood, but it sure seems like he's been swimming before 😳 It's hot out here, even the bears need a cool dip 🐻💦 Nevada City, CA

The poetry of sky and clouds and forest inspired me almost daily for a year. Watching what had happened above us while we made dinner, played Star Wars monopoly, or read 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘴, amazed me every time. It was time. Passing beautifully. I couldn’t continue while in treatment, but it’s a comfort, knowing that all this art continues above, doing its thing, regardless of whether we pay attention. Time passes. Beautifully. #timelapse #weather #relaxing

In early 2020, the cat-mask inspired us. What if we brought it to practice levitation photos? And wore it in the empty pool with a ballgown? And brought it exploring? And then Lockdown. The mask felt prescient. I didn't share many of the images we made, because it felt wrong to showcase spooky images while we all managed the first pandemic waves. Now? I guess we live in pandemic-land now. And the spooky has stories to tell again. We are in such an odd space weaving together old and new worlds. Hoping your world has an abundance of inspiration and beauty.

Welcome to the adventure that is our creative process. In the past years, Anika and I have enjoyed making epic photographs. We’ve enjoyed every time that a friend can come along. On a family visit, they asked, “What would you do for fun around here?” And we unironically answered, “Go to thrift stores, probably.” We’ve had friends join us for parts of the adventure, from finding prom dresses in a consignment shop to scouting locations on vacation. But we’ve never been able to include people into every step of the creative journey from idea to collection to location to photography and post-processing. This year has put us on an island, and we dearly miss meeting people and creating together. We’ve found friendship online, which gave us the idea to bring our inspirations and techniques online.
