Taking place every year on June 21 and coinciding with the summer solstice, World Humanist Day commemorates and celebrates humanism’s life-affirming values. Today provides humanists the space to share and celebrate humanism’s philosophical lifestance.

The idea of having a World Humanist Day first originated in the 80s when several state chapters of the American Humanist Association began marking and celebrating the occasion. In the late 80s and early 90s, the American Humanist Association and Humanists International passed resolutions that officially declared June 21st as World Humanist Day. ⠀ ⠀
