Rest in peace, beautiful golden coloured pure silk cheongsam. 𝐄𝐦𝐜𝐞𝐞 𝐌.𝐘. has only worn it on 2 occasions - once for a wedding where she was a dai k*m and emcee, then another occasion where she emceed. Then the cheongsam was kept in a cover and placed in the cupboard, kept away from sunlight for many years. Recently it was taken out for cleaning and it started to decompose after that.

Pure silk is known to be biodegradable. This fabric is more expensive but better for the skin and environment. Being in performance, we invest in costumes and props, sometimes catering to the occasion or event theme we are hired to perform in. The Olympic Games 2024 has officially ended a few hours ago. It has been the strangest Olympics opening and closing ceremonies ever, better suited for futuristic arts events. There were some rather quizzical moments throughout the games - from trying to conclude whether certain athletes were males or females, to athletes vomiting after swimming in Seine which anyone in their right minds in other circumstances would rather not swim in, to athletes staying in unfavourable living conditions and then seeing a carefree Snoop Dogg appearing everywhere throughout the Olympics. This Olympics shooter, Yusuf Dikeç, has gone viral due to his chilled, nonchalant shooting pose of no fancy gears such as special eyewear or fancy earphones. He even went on to win a silver medal. This is simplicity at its best. What may appear simple might be mighty within. This is a good reminder to never underestimate anyone or anything.

This brings us to a story in line with sports which Emcee M.Y. encountered in the past. Emcee M.Y. was active in sports during schooling years. Back then, every student in school will be divided into different Sports Houses. There would be an annual Sports Day event held every year. Before Sports Day, there would be a day allocated where all the students will be required to participate in several sports games, such as track events, long jump and shot putt). Some sort of a Mini-Sports Day or Sukaneka as they say in Malay language. Every student has to participate, regardless of whether they are athletes for that Sports House or not. There will be points given when a student passes the criteria for each game. These points will be accumulated towards the Sports House score. It is a nice system whereby everyone needs to contribute to their respective Houses and not just be a useless parasite doing nothing but being in that House. On Sports Day, the athletes will then compete in several games in order to secure more scores for the Sports House. The Mini-Sports Day is for everyone to contribute whereas Sports Day is for the athletes who have been chosen and practiced to be good at their sports. The athletes are like the pro who would then bring the House to their victory. Some games for the athletes were held before Sports Day, sometimes due to the lack of time on the actual Sports Day to fit all the games. The Sports House with the highest score will win the first prize trophy.

At one Mini-Sports Day event during the 100 metre sprint, there was a girl who lined up to wait for her turn to run. Her head held high and looking rather arrogant, she was decked in extra sports gear, with leg bands and all. Everyone else was just in their Sports House t-shirt and shorts/long pants, normally with school shoes and some took their shoes off. Even the athletes were not decked in any special gear or needing any arm/leg bands. That girl walked confidently towards the starting line and kneeled one leg down, like how athletes would be at the starting line of a track event before they ran. The teachers being the referees on that day, one of them was heard saying "ke garisan... sedia..." ("on your marks... get set..."). 'Preeet' the whistle sounded (last time we used whistles only in school, no 'bang' gunshots), denoting 'go' where the students are supposed to start running. The other students already pecut laju (sprinting fast) but that girl still lagging behind near the starting line. Apa ni, nampak macam hebat tapi tak boleh gerak (What's this, looking as though great but can't move). At the finishing line, that girl got 2nd place, from the bottom. Then she fainted some more. Aiyo (Oh gosh). Moral of the story, there is no need to look over extravagant or arrogant if you have not got the substance. They say to dress the part and look confident. Nothing wrong with this but please, make sure you also have the skills/experience to pull you through. This man representing Turkiye has shown the world that people with truly great skills need not appear too showy. That he is made of great substances despite his casual appearance in a t-shirt, pants, what appears to be reading glasses and one hand tucked into the other pocket while he scores pretty well. P/s : That girl was still (or maybe even more) arrogant even years after she left school.

Malaysia's Olympic 2024 Opening Ceremony Attire - some people liked it while others did not. Initial thoughts when viewing one of the pictures of the attire : why that duck excrement colour which made it look like they are attending a dull or sombre ceremony. They called it olive green. Upon close inspection, there are actually quite intricate motifs on it in a prettier vibrant gold colour. So we tried to enhance the picture(s) by setting the brightness to a higher level and voila, the attire looks better. We are not sure if it was dull-looking due to the setting of the pictures and it did not help that the athletes were almost drenched in rainwater so their attires were covered under raincoats during the opening ceremony, making the colour even darker. After all, the Malaysian designer duo that designed these attires have designed some remarkable pieces before.

Anyway, the Olympic games are more than just fashion. It should be about sportsmanship when the athletes show their strength and painstakingly practiced skills in their chosen sports and also the unity when human beings from all over the world gather together to make this event a reality. Less squabble, more harmony. We wish all those at the Olympic games a great time.

In one of our previous posts for 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we saw Carrots the toy rabbit, dressed up in a 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘤. It is actually 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘬, as you can evidently see from the tag in the picture. It is a silk scarf designed by a London designer label that was established since the 1990s. This silk scarf was a gift given to our owner a long time ago when she was in the United Kingdom. She did not use it because the design and colour is not her type. This should be a reminder not to give her anything not to her liking because even if it is branded, she will not use it. So she kept it tucked away and recently repurposed it to make it into a wrap dress for Carrots. You cannot really tell that something looking like it can pass off as a simple Asian ethnic product is in fact a London designer good made from exquisite material. We should not underestimate the value of an item, just the same like we should not underestimate a person's capability and worth.

True to the designer's words, the scarf is pure silk because it does not cause allergies and is soft to the touch. Natural fibre fabrics are usually more comfortable for all skin types, they are biodegradable and renewable meaning they are more environmentally friendly (this depends on the way they produce the fabric as well). They tend to be more expensive than synthetic cloth though. We might not think much about what we wear and do everyday but do know that your actions can affect the environment, which in turn can affect our lives on Earth. As long as she knows the basics of a traditional dance, she will choreograph it in her own interpretation. Pretty much the contemporary dancer style, she has always liked.
