7/25/2023-1st Annual Top 7 Heisman Watch" for the 2023 Football Season

Ready for Week Five of College Football is here!

Shedeur Sanders of Colorado continues to lead our Top 7 Heisman Watch List, though in last week's head to head matchup with Bo Nix of Oregon, the team from Oregon took the win at home. Another head to head matchup looms this week, as our preseason projected Top 2 of the 7 Watch List Members go head to head as Caleb Williams of USC faces Shedeur Sanders of Colorado on the road in Boulder, CO.

Michael Penix, Jr. of the University of Washington, though not on our original list, continues to lead the country in passing yards, so keep your eyes on the scoreboards this weekend.

With Drake Maye on a Bye Week at UNC, Nix of Oregon, Beck of UGA, Daniela of LSU and Milroe of Alabama all face road test that should bear watching.

Ready for Week Three of College Football as two of the candidates are ranked #2 and #3 nationally in passing yard rankings, Williams at #3 (last week at #2) after 3 games played and Sanders #2 (last week at #3) after 2 games played.

Milroe looks to bounce back against Mississippi State after falling to Texas at home in last week's game in Tuscaloosa.

Beck looks to the Georgia Bulldogs at #1 in the country on this week, while Nix and the Oregon Ducks look to beat Hawaii before facing the hottest team in America, Colorado on next week.

Maye and Daniels look to pick up key wins as well.

Wayback Wednesday Moment: Will They Hand #2 The Heisman?

Almost 30 years ago, college fans from around the world, watched in amazement as five amazing players like Sapp from Miami, Salaam from Colorado, Carter and Collins from Penn State and McNair from Alcorn gave us memories of football exploits on the offense and defense sides of the ball.

A "Hand Him the Heisman" with a magazine cover and song launched out of the state of Mississippi. Though the bid for the trophy would fall short, the legend of #9 would eventually finish 3rd in the race behind eventual winner from Colorado. Mississippians, far and near, thought about what could have been if "Air II" had won.

A generation later and almost 30 years, though the names have changed, the prospects of someone who put up SWAC numbers like Air II McNair, the rival school of Alcorn, which is known as the JSU Tigers, provided a platform for two years for #2, Shedeur Sanders, to win many awards and break records before arriving in Colorado this year. Mississipians, far and near, thought about what could have been if #2 had stayed longer.

But here we are today, a kid from a Mississippi SWAC school, having a chance to walk in the Heisman shadows of a Colorado Buffaloes Football Legend, Rashaan Salaam!

Only time will tell, but with 910 yards Passing, 6 Passing Touchdowns, 1 Rushing Touchdown and 83.7% Completion Rate in two games, with a three game stretch coming up against Colorado State, Oregon, and USC featuring two other Heisman candidates, the 2023 Football Season may be "Handing #2 The Heisman", but we shall see, so keep your popcorn ready in Colorado, Mississippi and Beyond!!!
