✨️Starting the year off with a surprise proposal? Yes, please! I’ve had the joy of capturing multiple this past year, and let me tell you, they’re always an adrenaline rush. Whether I’m hiding in bushes, pretending to be a casual passerby, or trying to stay invisible until the big moment, it’s all worth it to document that once-in-a-lifetime 'YES!'💍
This proposal was extra special, though. I had the honor of photographing Shelby’s family a couple years back, and we hit it off right away, so being there for such a huge, beautiful milestone in her life felt like coming full circle. What a privilege it is to freeze moments like this forever—an unforgettable day for them, and for me, too!!
✨️Over the weekend, Leo and I went through our wedding box—a treasure chest of memories filled with photos, his boutonniere, our vow books, and even past promise rings from over a decade ago. As we sifted through it all, we reminisced about our own proposal, and I wanted to share a little bit about that day.
It was during hunting season (we both got drawn that year), and we were camping up on Mingus Mountain, one of our favorite places. Leo told me we should take some pictures together, which wasn’t unusual since I was always convincing him to set up the tripod for a little photo session. We spent the afternoon taking pictures in the beautiful mountain scenery, and just as we were about to change back into our camo, he said he wanted to try one more spot.
We drove down the road to this magical little spot where two trees arched over the dirt road like a natural arbor waiting just for us. I set up the camera on the truck and started snapping photos. And then, in that perfect moment, he proposed.
It’s hard to describe —time truly felt like it slowed down, just like in a movie. It was as if we were the only two people in the world. For a few precious seconds, nothing else existed but us and this overwhelming feeling of love. Knowing you're exactly where you're meant to be.
✨️I couldn’t stop thinking about that feeling of time standing still—like the world freezes for a moment, and it’s just you and the person you love. I wanted to know more about it, so I did a little digging. Turns out, it’s a real phenomenon called 'temporal distortion' or 'time dilation.' It can happen during moments of intense emotion, when everything else fades away and you’re completely immersed in the present.
That’s exactly how I felt during my own proposal, and it’s something I think about every time I get to photograph one. Capturing that timeless moment for someone else is such an honor—because it’s more than just a photo. It’s the start of a whole new chapter, frozen in time forever.
Have you ever felt time stand still like that?🧡
