One of my favourite movies. 🙂

October 7, 1981:
An edited version of the live-action Disney supernatural horror film "The Watcher in the Woods," starring Bette Davis, Carroll Baker, David McCallum, and Lynn-Holly Johnson, is released. (An earlier version had premiered April 16, 1980 in New York but was withdrawn so a new ending could be filmed.)

Based on the 1976 novel by Florence Engel Randall, the story focuses on a teenage girl and her little sister who become encompassed in a supernatural mystery regarding a missing girl in the woods surrounding their new home. When the Curtis family rent a foreboding house in England from an eccentric recluse, Mrs. Aylwood, a series of terrifying events occur.

The cast features:
Bette Davis as Mrs. Aylwood
Carroll Baker as Helen Curtis
David McCallum as Paul Curtis
Lynn-Holly Johnson as Jan Curtis
Kyle Richards as Ellie Curtis
Ian Bannen as John Keller
Richard Pasco as Tom Colley

Though critical response to the film was varied and included numerous unfavorable reviews, the film went on to gain a cult following in the years following its release.

"The Watcher in the Woods" was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best International Film and Kyle Richards was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress & Young Artist Award for Best Young Motion Picture Actress for her portrayal of Ellie Curtis.
