The Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival continues in the Studebaker with Baxter Theatre and Handspring Puppet Co.: J.M. Coetzee’s Life and Times of Michael K. Performances start tomorrow through the 26th.

In this stunning transformation of Nobel Laureate J.M. Coetzee’s Booker Prize-winning novel by the same name, a humble man finds solace in nature as he takes an epic journey through a mythical, war-torn landscape. In search of his mother’s ancestral home, he finds strength in his own humanity and a profound connection to the earth. With puppets by Handspring Puppet Company, known for building the War Horse and Little Amal, Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre brings us a new level of exquisite bunraku-style puppet theater.

Escape the cold and witness what critics are calling “a marvel to behold” this week!

Don’t miss Iniskim – Return of the Buffalo, an intercultural artistic response to the return of the buffalo, as wild animals, to North America, tomorrow at 3pm in the Studebaker!

Directed by Leanne Allison and Pete Balkwill, the film is an opportunity to learn about Indigenous ways of knowing. We watch as a group of puppeteers are transformed by their experience of ‘being buffalo’ at night under the stars, guided by the stories of the Blackfoot Elders.

The Chicago Bar Association presents “Bar to the Future” Live at the Studebaker! In its 101st annual year, the Chicago Bar Show continues to entertain lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

The Bar Show has been entertaining audiences since 1923 when a few Chicago Bar Association members decided to liven up an annual yuletide dinner. What started out as a single sketch has grown to an all-out musical r***e written and performed by some very talented members of Chicago’s legal community.

It’s History Monday! Today we are sharing a program from 1934 for Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore that was performed at the Studebaker Theater. You’ll notice the charming Art Deco lettering and the description of the Studebaker as “Chicago’s Atmospheric Theatre On The Boulevard”.

Some 90 years later, the rich legacy of the Studebaker Theater and Fine Arts Building continues!

It’s Theater Thursday and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome back DogMan: The Musical!

Best buds George and Harold have been creating comics for years, but now that they’re in 5th grade, they figure it’s time to level up and write a musical based on their favorite character, Dog Man, the crime-biting sensation who is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO!! How hard could it be?

Happy History Monday! Featuring this image of the Studebaker Theater as it looked in 1898. It was a very different room, with its arched proscenium, four levels of private boxes along the side walls, Grecian inspired columns, and seating for over 1,500 patrons. But note the ceiling — the only element from this image that still exists in the Studebaker today!

TONIGHT! Join us at the Studebaker for the 100 year anniversary of Aelita: Queen of Mars and 70 year celebration of Marc Ribot. The film centers around engineer Mstislav Sergeyevich Los who travels to Mars where he leads a popular uprising against the ruling group of Elders with the support of Queen Aelita who has fallen in love with him after watching him through a telescope. Aelita: Queen of Mars will be accompanied by an original score by Marc Ribot.
