Confession: Halimeda (Nancy Redig) had a very, very hard time learning to dance and play zills way back in the dark ages. It is one of the reasons that I like to share what I learned and hopefully help others learn more quickly, have lots of fun and not be afraid of the challenge.

The first Tallahassee, Replay Fitness studio workshop is January 19th at 1:30 EST (**sold out**) but a repeat of the same class will be January 26th. DM for more information.

Finger cymbals, sagat (Egyptian), zills (Turkish, American) ...whatever you want to call the small, metal, bell like instruments dancers wear on their fingers. Names vary by country and language. These bell like sounds keep the beat, enhance the music, provide our own percussion, communicate with the audience and/or communicate with the band.

I keep a variety in stock that I like. They all have a good, clear bell tone. There are 4 cymbals to a set. All new sets have 2 holes in the top of each cymbal for the elastic. Some of my consignments (not online) have a single hole and those are a little harder to control the sounds.

Thanks to everyone who stopped to shop and say "hi" at the wonderful workshop in Holiday, Florida last Saturday. Sausan's information was wonderful and a good reminder of how culture influences dance. Sorry...no pictures as I was busy dancing and talking!

Halimeda's Oasis is going to Holiday, Florida for Saturday's class with Sausan, Classic Egyptian Style Belly Dance. I'm only bringing a very few things as I plan to take the class. Here's hoping my feet will hang in!

One lastest skirt finally up online halimeda.etsy.com under the skirts section..... Purple flowers flowers on black, dramatic , sheer, light weight skirt with one leg opening, fastens with hook and eye, on elastic band..There is enough volume in the skirt so you can tuck it up on one side or both sides to emphasize hip movement. Can be worn alone, over another skirt or pantaloons. Skirt is 33 inches long. Minimum waist size is 38 inches and skirt will stretch to 42 inches. $75 PM me if interested or check out my Etsy site.

Halimeda's Oasis is back from 4 weeks of traveling through some of this glorious country. My web site is open for orders and my Etsy site is back online. No damage from either hurricane to the warehouse or office. We are ready to ship.

Reminder...we do custom work for individuals and troupes: skirts, vests, dresses, pants and tops. And I have a bin of ready made skirts to be photographed and posted ASAP.

I'm also looking froward to festivals and haflas. Let me know if you have an event and would like to have our hand sewn, unique costuming on display for you.

Our travel timing not the best as I had to miss Harem Of Horrors Panama City hafla but the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta reservations had been scheduled year ago. We need transporter technology.

Halimeda is taking a short break this fall and doing some traveling. My web site, www.halimedasoasis.com, will be visible but not allow orders; my Etsy shop will be on "vacation." I'll close the Facebook shop.

A request for anyone ordering from my web site, eBay or Etsy site: please use an email that you check often!

I know the adds from eBay and Etsy can be annoying but please don't use a "throw away" email. Also, please check your spam folders from time to time incase the Etsy, eBay or Square site ends up as spam. I have several requests out to potential buyers through these sites and have been waiting for days for a response.

We had wonderful time at the Summer Hafla hosted by Jessica Shirvan, Parvanas and families! Thank you everyone for making my day (week, month) so much fun.

I'm pondering what to bring to Parvanas hafla this weekend (8/17) ..???? Anyone have anything they want to look at? I'm thinking of not only some MENAHT but also Hawaiian dresses/skirts. Never an obligation to buy, I have limited space and want to get things that YOU are interested in.

Plush and stretchy mermaid/mini skirt in size L / XL. The skirt has hand beading with paillettes on the bottom There are ribbons on both sides to pull the skirt up or loosen to better fit your body. The skirt is 19 inches long when fully extended. You can pull the ribbons vertically tight on the side until the skirt is only 11 inches long. Minimum waist size is 35 inches and stretches to 40 inches. The self casing for the waist elastic is 1 inch wide. Pailletes are attached by loops of seed beads.

Could be worn alone, over pants or over many types of skirt. Makes a mermaid skirt when worn over a circular skirt.

Had a great few days away from work! Back home and ready to go...then BAM...major sick! Mike and I are hiding in the house. I'm working on the online platforms when I'm awake and not coughing like some kind of crazy person. We are still packing orders carefully and trying to sanitize all we touch.

We now have several options to find quality costuming starting with my web site https://www.halimedasoasis.com It is the most complete listing. I still have a much to photograph and get online. Many more items to come.

The Etsy site https://halimeda.etsy.com has the latest hand picked quality vintage finds and the newest hand made items.

eBay store https://www.ebay.com/str/halimedascaravanserai has the biggest discounts. Nothing wrong with anything on eBay. Mostly I need to make space for new stuff from time to time so something gets sacrificed and YOU get the good deals!
