A HUGE happy birthday to Arjun, who turned 2 over the weekend and booked Story Box to entertain at his party 🥳

We wrote and performed a customised story, all about a race car 🏎️ and his troubles at the construction site 🚧 🦺 🏗️ to fit in with the wonderful theme and decor by .gh

Story Box Sensory is partnering with Funhouse Nursery in Accra, to bring an interactive storytelling, drama and sensory play class for little ones, starting TUESDAY 29th October.

Story Box was created by Sian - a Speech & Language Therapist and Drama Practitioner with a keen interest in supporting early childhood development skills through drama and play.

Together with the Story Box class leaders and Madam Reem - who brings many successful years of educational experience - they are offering these baby sensory classes in an educational environment to support your little ones on their learning journey!

The price is Ghs 100 per class and children must be accompanied by an adult. The class is suitable for children 6 to 30 months.

Story Box at Bright Bloom Summer Camp, 2024!!

A specialist Speech and Language Therapy Camp with drama, music and art for children with Down Syndrome DONE ✔️

We had the best time with these wonderful children and we cannot wait for more camps in the future!!

Although we will soon celebrate a decade of Story Box in Ghana, it is the end of my first term running sessions at nurseries in the UK and what a term it has been!!

Five nurseries signed up for weekly sessions immediately after experiencing our free trial class! Another two nurseries booked Story Box to perform at their end of term Graduation party, with hopes of weekly sessions in the coming terms alongside the other three nurseries who experienced a Story Box trial!! We still have several nurseries booked for trials in September as I simply couldn’t fit it all in (as I still work 3 days a week with the NHS).

I’ve made over 100 mini fans (they literally shout my name and sing my songs lol) and the feedback and gifts from the nursery managers and owners this week brought me to tears! A comment I have heard many times recently goes a bit like: “It’s amazing to see the children who do not usually engage in group activities participate at Story Box with you.”

It feels amazing to offer additional support in such a fun and engaging way that can be enjoyed by all.
One of my personal goals as a mum to a child with additional needs and a Speech and Language Therapist is to bridge the gap in communication between children with SEN and their peers. I am doing this through Story Box and I simply love what I do.

Bright Bloom Summer Camp - Speech and Language therapy for children with Down Syndrome🌷

We will be running our summer camp this year at St Luke’s Special School, St Albans!
Organised and run by a team of Speech and Language Therapists, your children will enjoy a fun-packed 2-day camp, where they will rotate between specialist speech and language therapy sessions, art and crafts with our SEN art teacher and interactive storytelling and drama with Story Box.

A total communication approach is used throughout the camp, with Makaton sign, singing, dancing, games and more and children will have 1:1 support from Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy students and experienced learning support staff assisting the children throughout the camp.

Date: Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th August 2024, 10am-3pm
Location: St Luke's School, Redbourn
Cost: £260

Happy Chinese New Year 🧧 gong xi fa cai

It’s the year of the Dragon and we had so much fun celebrating and dancing like fire breathing dragons 🐉 at Story Box last Monday!!

In this story, our friend Deshi the shy dragon was too nervous to dance. We spoke about our big feelings and how our body feels when we’re nervous or worried. We spoke about ways to help regulate those emotions (with the help of our grownups)!

We also met Boa, our super fast flying bat that never crashes because she uses her ears to “see” (echo location)

We explored the Chinese culture, looked at colourful pictures, listened to traditional music and spoke some Mandarin!!

And of course continued to build confidence developing our communication skills, social interaction skills, movement and coordination, problem solving and sooo much more!!

There are many lessons in every story I write and perform and children have the best time learning at Story Box ☺️☺️

It’s been a busy December for Story Box!! Entertaining at the Sparkles: Supporting Children with Down's Syndrome Christmas party, a home Christmas party for a group of childminders and 15 preschoolers and of course our very own Christmas Adventure at the Abbey Theatre - St Albans earlier this week!

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and see you on January 15th when our weekly classes resume every Monday, 10:30-11:15 at The Abbey Theatre!
