We are looking at about 3:45 for a start time today. We are putting the finishing touches on our beer garden and entrance. There will be only the left field entrance into North Field. Liza’s Sushi and Kate’s Kookies are open for business in the parking lot in front of that entrance now if you’re hungry. Otherwise we’ll see everyone closer to 4:00.

14/06/2024

Hop A Lot will start tearing down around 8:30-9:00 depending on sundown. Probably not ideal to have kids bouncing around when it’s pitch black out. I’ll post as soon as setup is complete.

14/06/2024

Happy Pig Out weekend everyone. A couple updates- Monroe street will be open Saturday.

Hop A Lot Inflatables will be setting up today at 1:30. Please do not come early so they and other vendors can set everything up. I’ll post on this page as soon as they are set up or you can assume you’re good to go at 3.

13/06/2024

According to a rumor going around, I haven’t heard straight from the source, but Dollar General is going to have a tow truck on stand by for anyone using their parking lot during Pig Out.

Please refrain from using their and Casey’s parking lot during the Pig Out unless you are using it as a customer. We want to maintain a solid relationship with our in town businesses.

Our live music act on Friday had to bow out due to a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are super proud of Neva Alden and wish her the best of luck. Taking her place will be two new bands, Chris Heaton from 6-8 and Sierra Griggs from 8-10, all at the North Field.

We have quadrupled our live music from last year and turned our beloved Pig Out into Pigstock.

10/06/2024

Happy Pig Out week everyone! It’s like like it will be dry and around 80-85 for this year’s event both days.

Couple reminders

-Free meal is Saturday, but we do have a food truck and ice cream truck coming Friday. I will be receiving 6 dozen cookies from Subway so I may pass those out Friday night if I have some time to step away and get those.

-We have a ton of inflatable rides/bouncey houses coming Friday, it’s $5 for unlimited access for all ages. There are weight limits for each ride, but no age restrictions.

-Car Show Saturday starts at 10, judging at 1, clearing out at 2. Bags tourney starts at 3. Free to play, winner gets trophy and gift card to halftome($50). Bands start at 4 Saturday(6 on Friday)

A quick update on 2024 Pig Out- We will have public bathrooms available at the ball fields Friday night and at Memorial Hall Saturday. We looked into porter-potties, but it would be our biggest expense and they would be sitting out there after the event until Monday afternoon and I don't think anyone wants that. Please don't make us regret opening the public bathrooms to everyone. Clean up after yourself, pick up your own trash, and remember volunteers are the ones putting all of this on and cleaning up each night.

Neva Alden had to bow out for a huge opportunity she has that weekend, we are all so proud of her. We are filling her slot with two bands Friday night, we'll announce shortly.

It's looking like the weather on Friday night will be between 80-85 and cloudy on Friday night and 80-90 and breezy Saturday night.

Rough schedule of all three Pig Out Events

Friday(6/14) at the James Calhoun Sports Complex on Pleasant street.

Everything should be set up by roughly 3:00, if it's early I'll post on the Pleasantville area page. We will have Inflatables from Hop A Lot, North End's Beer Garden, The Pleasantville Youth Initiative and Pleasantville Church of Christ will have games set up as well. We will have live music starting at 6:00. Harter Family Farms will have a table set up as well.

The inflatables will be about 5 or 6 different setups and wristbands are $5 for unlimited access. If your family is struggling right now and would like a free one, please message me(randyjobst) and I can get you one ahead of time. We all go through tough times and one of the missions of the PBO is to make sure every kid can participate in sports and community events, so if money is tight don't be proud, just reach out and we'll make sure you are taken care of.

We will also have Kate's Kookies and Liza's Sushi as our food and dessert venders.

The Car Show registration will be right in front of Memorial Hall on Saturday, 6/15 starting at 10:00. $20 per car, no restrictions, prizes for top 15 as voted on by the contestants only. We will judge at 1:00 and wrap up at 2. The Lodge is doing a free will breakfast, the Pleasantville Farmers Market will also be set up on the square and the Pleasantville Christian Church will be selling breakfast burritos as well.

The Bags tournament will be starting at 3:00 in front of Halftime. No fee to enter, winner gets a $50 Halftime gift card and it will be a double elimination tournament. If you can't access the spreadsheet, just message me and I'll get you entered and let me know before we start at 3. We have four entered so far and will take entries all the way up before the first match.

Halftime will be providing a Beer garden as well and they will be hosting live music from Lucas Beebe at 4 and Grind at 7. Our food vendors for Saturday will be Pho Wheels. The Pleasantville Dance Team will be providing a crafts table for the kids which includes tattoos, face painting, a dinosaur craft and a bouquet craft.

Crush Nutrition will be selling teas as well.

Tassi Fuson will be hosting a Dime Toss game and there will also be a Girl Scouts table selling cookies. We will have a group selling chips, water, and soda.

The BBQ contest judging will start at 5:00 and they will serve their food after the judging finishes until it's gone. There will be freewill donation boxes set up at each meat station, similar to last year but with more than one now.

All proceeds to the Pig Out go to the Jasper Street Park Project and help keep this event coming back each year. None of this is city funded, alll the money comes from the PBO and our sponsors and it all run by volunteers who don't make a dime off this event.

We'd like to thank our Presenting Sponsor- McKay Group, a long with our other sponsors- People's Bank, Accura Healthcare, Southern Iowa Electric, Fareway of Knoxville and Michelle Green Reality.

If I left anyone out please message me, don't complain on another page. I will get you added. If anyone else wants to be a part of the Pig Out, feel free to reach out to me as well.

I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the process we've made on Pig Out 2024. We're bringing a lot of stuff back this year that we've had in year's past, that was very important for us to do. Last year we were given up 60 days to put the whole thing together, so if you were disappointed last year, you can raise your expectations a little bit this year. The toughest thing about this event is there seems to be all new people running it every couple years.

We are bringing back the Pig Out signs, new and improved thanks to Emma Hodnefield. We'll try to get those up this weekend. Any suggestions on where to place them is welcomed. Also if you take them or damage them there is a Pig Out Mafia that will find you.

The car show is also being brough back thanks to Rod Freeman. If you appreciate the car show being brought back, make sure you thank him on June 15th. It will take place at the square from 10-2. Registration is $20 and the top 10 all receive trophies. All proceeds go to the Jasper street park and playground project, which is already underway.

The BBQ contest is also being brought back and we'll judge for best overall winner and best side dish around 5:00 on the 15th. After that the food will be served as a free will donation meal.

We are also bringing back the Friday night of Pig Out and having it at the park on Pleasant Street. Hop A Lot will be bringing inflatable rides and there will be other games and food as well.

Both days will have a food truck and ice cream truck and both days will have a beer garden and live music.

This event is made possible from our sponsors and the Pleasantville Betterment Organization. This is not funded by the city in any way, so without our local non-profit and local businesses, this event could not happen.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments and we'll get them answered.

Huge thanks for the 2024 Pig Out 2024 presenting sponsor McKay Group. Located right in the heart of the square, McKay has been a great local business to our community sponsoring events like the Pig Out and our local high school’s athletic program.

Small towns can’t thrive without the generosity of local businesses like McKay Insurance and events like The Pig Out can’t take place without our sponsors.

What did everyone think of the Christmas on the Square? I wasn’t able to attend, but I’m curious what you guys thought was done really well with it and what could have been done better. We’ll take suggestions and use them to help improve the Pig Out this year.
