Winter can be a particularly challenging time of year. The dark months and festive period often magnify financial worries, loneliness, grief, mental health issues, the contemplation of su***de and many other difficulties. Samaritans volunteers provide emotional support for those in need, in despair, and contemplating su***de. We are running an in-person experiential event and a virtual raffle to raise money for the Samaritans to help them provide their vital services over the winter months (links in bio)
THE SAMARITANS
Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from over 200 branches across the UK and Ireland.
In 2022, 23,000 Samaritans volunteers answered an incredible 3 million calls; 46,000 live chats; and thousands of emails, texts, and face-to-face drop ins, providing emotion support to people in need, in despair, and contemplating su***de. With the ongoing the cost of living crisis their services are needed more than ever. In fact, 2023 has seen the biggest rise in first time callers than ever before. However, as the Samaritans operating costs increase, it is becoming more difficult to provide their vital services to everyone who needs it. Every £5 raised has the power to answer a potentially life-saving call.
The Samaritans not only provides emotional support but also informs and inspires government and public policy on su***de prevention strategies. They also work towards safe coverage of mental health issues and su***de in the media, for example, Eastenders' long-running youth mental health and self-harm storyline was supported by Samaritans. Your donation will not only help those in need but also contribute towards driving change to help save more lives and create a better-informed society.
