HEADLINER 🌷 KIM HOLMES @kimd.holmes • For the last 20 years, Kim Holmes has emerged as one of the premiere, influential luminaries of the urban dance movement with unparalleled vibrancy, sensuality, and versatility. This legendary, leading lady and vanguard of Hip-Hop dance culture, has sought to redefine the face of the hip hop/urban dance movement as a heavily sought after dancer, choreographer, and Founder and Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed, Universal Dance Movement. Along with her formal training in traditional dance forms of African, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary, to name a few, Kim became intensely mesmerized by the pulsating energy of contemporary urban dance as expressed within forms of Hip-Hop and House. Her evolving intrigue in hip hop and house led her to an opportunity to tour and work with some of the top performers and influential artists within the music industry, including Jay-z, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Salt n Pepa, Mya, Yummy Bingham, Deemi, Dance Fusion, Kr3t’s and a plethora of others. Kim’s rise within the hip-hop with her unique, stand-out, lively performances would lead her to collaborate with some of the most prominent choreographers throughout entertainment including Laurieann Gibson, Brian “Footwork” Green, Rhapsody James, Eartha Robinson, Marjory Smarth, Ejoe Wilson, Mickey Davidson, Abdel Salaam, Ron Brown, Rennie Harris, to name a few, earning her the reputation and title as the “Josephine Baker of Hip-Hop.”

HEADLINER 🌷 ESRAA WARDA @wardadance • is an emerging touring dance artist and educator hailing from Brooklyn, New York, specializing in traditional North African feminine form dance with a particular focus on Algerian dance(s). As a child of the Algerian diaspora, starting her dance journey at age 13, Warda advocates for the representation and preservation of North African women-led dance traditions while challenging euro-centricity, orientalism, and patriarchy in the dance world.
Her innovative pedagogies have garnered recognition from esteemed publications such as the New York Times, VOGUE Arabia, and The Metric, and even earned her a nomination as one of BBC’s 100 Women in 2022. Warda’s performances and teachings have graced prestigious venues in the US and around the world such as Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, Old Town School of Folk Music, OXY Arts, Georgetown University, New York University, The Movement Lab at Barnard College, Rich Mix, Mosaic Rooms, and the University of Ottawa, and she has even been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Meets Global Fest.
She cherishes the wisdom of female elders, the “chiekhat” of tradition, especially in Algerian Rai, which she cultivates through her mentorship with the legendary 80-year-old Cheikha Rabia, after studying 6 years under Morocco’s Khadija el Warzazia, leader of Marrakech’s “Bnat el Houariyat”. Her teaching approach is described as a “popular format,” which harmonizes the essence and aesthetic of informal dance education (learning from the living room, weddings, etc.) while simultaneously systemizing a dance vocabulary in Algerian dance.

HEADLINER 🌷 Sun Kim @sunkimdance • Sun Kim is a distinguished dancer, choreographer, artistic director, and dance educator. Hailing from South Korea, she specializes in Popping – a style of street dance in which she finds strength and freedom to speak her truth. Most recently, she has been honored with the 2022 Emerging Artist Award at Harlem Stage Gala and was nominated at the 2022 Bessie Awards for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer.
Sun’s passion for dance began at a young age. When she was 12 years old, she started learning Breaking and Popping. She quickly fell in love with the art form and knew that she wanted to pursue it professionally. After training for 10 years, she moved to NYC in 2011. Since then, she has achieved many accomplishments, such as winning Step Ya Game Up world final Popping battle, making it to the top 8 at UK B-Boy championship world final as the USA Popping representative, and performing for Cirque Du Soleil. Additionally, Sun Kim has taught at various institutions such as Princeton University, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance Center, and Kookmin University in South Korea.
Rather than staying in her comfort zone, she continues to challenge herself in different industries such as commercial jobs for Madonna, Elton John, Phish, Nike, McDonald’s, Golden Goose, and Gap, and also in the theater industry, she presented her own work for Burning Man at Sotheby’s, Harlem Stage, Breakin’ Convention, Jacob’s Pillow, New Victory Theater, and Mark Morris.
This breadth of experience has allowed her to develop a unique perspective and approach to directing and teaching that has established her own dance company, Sun Kim Dance Theatre (SKDT). SKDT has been performed at LayeRhythm/Works & Process Guggenheim with New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, MOPTOP Anniversary, San Francisco International Hip Hop Dance Festival, Ladies of Hip Hop Festival, Dance Parade NYC and Choreographer’s Carnival.
