As we get ever-so closer to the award ceremony for this year's Pride of Somerset Youth Awards, we're taking some time to think about each category, and why it's so important for us to celebrate these young people.

Today, we're spotlighting the Community Hero Award, proudly sponsored by Bridgwater United Community Sports Trust. This award celebrates the young people who make a real difference in the places they call home, and Somerset as a whole.

This award honours those who:
- Go above and beyond to improve the lives of others within their community.
- Take initiative and dedicate themselves to help, driven by a desire to make their community a better place.
- Find creative and effective ways to address challenges faced by their community.
- Their passion and actions motivate others to get involved and give back.
- Demonstrate a long-term dedication to strengthening and improving their community.

Today, our focus is on our Charity / Volunteer Hero award, which celebrates extraordinary young people who give back to make our world and local communities a better place.

As we prepare for our award ceremony in May, we're taking a detailed look at each of our award categories, thinking about what they mean to us as we work through the incredible nominations that have been submitted this year.

The Championing Positive Mental Health Award is sponsored by Bounce Forward and celebrates young people who make mental wellbeing a priority for themselves and their communities.

It's so important to support this, and that we're building a society that is beginning to acknowledge just how important mental health is to us all.

The award recognises those who:

- Practice healthy habits and coping mechanisms to support their own mental health.
