"I was driving to the post office, and my route took me by a house with a table set up on the sidewalk and a sign that read 'FREE.' I turned around, parked my car alongside the road, and walked up to the family sitting next to the table.
As I approached, a young man asked if I needed a meal. My suspicions were correct. The table was filled with prepared meals. I told him, 'No, thank you.' But I was curious as to what they were doing. To be honest, I was getting a little choked up. A lady sitting behind the table told me they often prepare meals to give out on Sundays.
I was unbelievably touched by this act. I stammered and stumbled my way through an awkward thank you for their kindness. I tried to offer a contribution but the lady politely said no. I’m still not sure what compelled me to stop and talk to this family. I do know their act of kindness to their community will stay with me as an example of our better angels during these times."
