⨳ ⨳ A bad photo of a nice pattern ⨳ ⨳
It is inspired by band from mantle of Roger II. of Sicily (12th century). The original band was very fine and narrow, brocaded with prescious metal thread.
⨳ The interpretation you see is made of wool, 4 cm wide (which is definitely on the wider side of what I normally do).
⨳ If you scroll a bit down my profile you will see my first attempt from 2018 - same colours, but simplified pattern. And cotton instead of wool. I will keep you updated.

˚ · .˚ ༘🍁⋆｡˚ Available in my shop tomorrow morning. Orange one is 212 cm long (+ 12 cm tassels on each side) and the green-yellow one is 275 cm long with 12 cm tassels. Pure Norwegian wool, as usual 🐏

Can you guess which one of these 4 is my favourite?
I weave bands with "Oseberg 12L1" inspired pattern quite often because it is a very easy one and I can use yarns scraps from other projects for it. It is great for beginners because its nature makes it easy to understand how threaded-in tablet weaving technique works.
Dated to 9th century, "Oseberg 12L1" is only one of textile artifacts found in one of richest ship burials from Viking Age. The original band was fine, woven of silk and linen and less than 1 cm wide.
Now you got your hint 😄

I made 30 cm and there is already a mistake. Now I have to decide whether to repeat the mistake regularly or to ignore it. In other words, to fool everyone so they think it was intentional or to cross fingers so nobody notices it.
On the picture shown there are no mistakes shown. So when the band is finished you don't know what I decided for 😏 *evil laugh*

Great news! I managed to dye sufficient amount of yarns with plants to continue production of this belt 🌿
It is made to order and each specimen is ✨unique✨. Yarns I use come from different batches and have variation in colour shade. All yarns were dyed by myself using birch leaves, red onion skins, umbilicaria lichen and sappan wood.
You can order this one in custom colours and length, too :)

The rainy season begins at Norwegian west coast 🌧️ And I made a rain coloured belt from villsau wool. It is natural grey blend, cruelty free wool from an old sheep breed that was grazing on pastures of "Hordafylke" in Viking age.
This band was handwoven as a simple "brick pattern". Historical bands are usually woven with much finer yarns as mine - there are some wonderful examples depicted and explained in Finnish Iron Age context in book Tablet woven treasures by ..but for now I work with what I have 😄 Far from all my customers are reenactors so I think I get away with it this time.

As usual: I put the handwoven band neatly on a sheep skin, took a few pictures, turned away for two seconds and there he was 🐱
Now I'm very careful to not leave bands I spent so many hours working on accessible to the curious cat. The lesson was learned 🧶
This band untouched by his claws and teeth is 220 cm long and still available.
I don't normally beg for likes but I posted this later than usual and the algorithm is going to punish me for having a life outside Meta. I will be happy if you did mr that little favour this time and hit ❤️

Delicate silk ribbon and a rare purple mushroom 🍄
🧶 The ribbon is handwoven of silk. The pattern is created by threading and change of turning direction of weaving tablets. Finished ribbon is long enough to be used as a headband for reenactment purposes just as good as for any special occasion.
🍄 Clavaria zollingeri is an endangered fungus species. It grows only once in a few years, in proximity of rich pastures of old cultural landscapes. Like my backyard.

Enjoy the 🧶 Weaving is the one thing that allows me to focus on just one thing and give my brain some rest. My mind is like a beehive, very active most of the day and restless. When weaving, it is almost like being on vacation.
