It's autumn in Finland again! Now officially my favourite time of the year, closely followed by winter. These are all taken embarrassingly close to home; the first is actually from the kitchen window (why not?).

All going well, I'll soon be heading off home to Australia, visiting family and friends, and finally meeting my new grandson, Vinny. :) . It'll be summer while I'm there so don't expect any snow photos, ok?

Take care.

A bit of a mixed bag spanning from last winter to just a couple of days ago. Things change pretty rapidly around here; a blizzard here, a frost there, here a spooky guy in a park, there some flowers in the woods. There's always something to show. :D

When it's frosty, cold and foggy it's important to capture the moment, even if you can't do the moment justice. Two of these pictures are taken standing on the frozen sea, which, as an Australian, I always count as an act of bravery, especially when you hear sounds of the ice cracking and groaning around you. It's very unnerving.

I think it's somewhat mandatory for people with pretensions of being a photographer to post their top 10 personal favourite photos of the year on December 31. I did 12 instead. Happy New Year to you. :D

Very frosty today. It gets like this when it's a little warmer, even though it looks colder. Like I said on Instagram, it was one of those days that if you couldn't take at least one decent photo (assuming you were trying), you may as well throw your camera in the river.

Dear you,
A couple of pics from this morning's dog walk (I should just copy/paste that statement). It's amazing how, even after 10 years living on a tiny island and thinking I've seen the island from every angle, that I can still find a pleasing view I never expected.

I hope you're well. :)

A few photos from grey and green Finland yesterday. If you look hard enough you may notice a tree or two. I couldn't be helped; they're everywhere over here. These are all actually photos of a local sports event involving a large yellow ball and a tamed moose named Alfred.

I rode 16 kilometres and walked three to take a photo of a tree. What did you do today? 🤣

Piko and I went for a walk at Santalahti Naturewalk this morning and it struck me again how blessed we are to have such natural beauty only 15 minutes bike ride away.

A couple of other photos from this time last year. The forests and woodlands around here are very, how can I describe them? - lovely, but very "straight up and downy". You have to work quite hard to find a spot where there's an interesting composition that doesn't just look like a copy of a thousand other photos. I have a few secret spots I've discovered over the years though and I'm looking forward to revisiting them. :)

Haukkavuori, Kotka.

Sometimes you don't have to travel 100km to take a photo. Sometimes it's waiting for you across the street.

I probably rushed the editing on these, but that's the way sometimes. I was just too excited to get them out before bedtime, which is in exactly 11 minutes from now.

I hope you're having an excellent day, morning, evening, night. :)

Metsola, Kotka, Finland.

Sometimes it's easy to overlook photos and not notice them until much later. This is one of those. I think this is from earlier this year in May. It's a little strip of coastal woodland (perhaps it's a park) just 10 minutes bike ride from here. There's a picturesque row of old Finnish wooden homes just out of shot on the left and the coast to the right. A lovely spot.

I like this one because the understorey isn't cluttered with rowan and maple regrowth like everywhere else. It's pleasant to the eye to be able to see through the trees (not literally, of course; they're not transparent!)

Oh, sorry, I forgot this one from Santalahtiluontopolku. :)

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.” (Genesis 1:3-4)

“Now is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It won’t last forever. We must take it or leave it.” (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity)
