Cromwell High School is a special school for pupils of secondary and Sixth Form age with severe or profound learning difficulties and pupils with intensive autism and complex learning difficulties. The colours were stunning at Haigh Woodland Park Bubblefest 2024 yesterday. White-light reflections from the cloudy sky and the dark background of trees combined with moist air and gentle breezes to create perfect conditions.

We found my missing gold wedding ring! I had lost it on Sunday while providing six hours of bubble-entertainment in the middle of a huge field at Statfold Country Park, near Tamworth. After posting an appeal on Facebook I was contacted by Dave Moran, chairman of High Peak Metal Detecting Club. He alerted the National Ring Recovery (who knew!?) Facebook group and the wonderful Bartek Oprzędek contacted me in response. So this morning Andrea and I drove 40 miles to Rotherham, picked up Bartek, then continued another 70 miles to Statfold Country Park. It didn't take me long to identify the heavily trampled patch of grass I'd occupied on Sunday. Bartek switched on the detector and donned his headphones. He found the ring almost immediately and was visibly disappointed at the rapid end to his mission!
We drove 110 miles home, via Rotherham, and arrived in time for an early lunch.
What could we say to such a big-hearted guy who did this for us without accepting payment? Not to mention the spell-binding stories he told us of his metal detecting adventures. It even turned out that the local museum in Tamworth has on display a highly ornamented piece of Saxon gold that Bartek found locally.
