Mastering table etiquette can add a touch of elegance to your wedding day, but it doesn’t have to be complicated! From where to start with your cutlery to how to signal you’re finished, we’ve got you covered.
We believe the little details make all the difference, so let’s make sure your day is unforgettable—right down to the table setting. 🍽️
Here are some tips on table etiquette for your wedding.
🩶Start from the outside in: For each course, use the utensils farthest from your plate first. Work your way inward with each course.
🩶Fork on the left, knife on the right: The fork is always placed on the left side of your plate, while the knife (with the blade facing the plate) is on the right.
🩶Resting vs. finished positions: If you’re pausing during your meal, place the knife and fork in a “V” shape with tips on the plate and handles resting on the table. When finished, place them together diagonally across your plate, fork tines up and knife blade inwards.
🩶Don’t gesture with utensils: Avoid using your knife or fork to emphasize your words. Keep them on the plate when not in use.
🩶Napkin etiquette: Once seated, place your napkin on your lap. If you need to leave the table, place it on your chair. When the meal is over, fold it loosely and place it to the left of your plate.
🩶Wait before starting: Always wait until everyone at your table is served before starting to eat, unless instructed otherwise by the host.
🩶Pass food and drinks to the right: If sharing food or drinks, pass to the right unless directed differently by your server or host.
These tips can help you feel confident and comfortable at your wedding or formal event.
