Stan and Ron McLaren riding to Birdwood School c1923

Over 100 years later McLarens are still farming at Glenmore and Taylors still farming at Birdwood!

In his memoir “From Glenmore to Mt McDonald” Stan McLaren wrote:

"By the end of 1922, I was almost seven and Ron was eight, so we had to go to school. Mum and Dad were a bit worried that we wouldn’t cope with the town children so we were sent out seven miles to a subsided school with only the Neindorf and Taylor families attending. We each rode our ponies 14 miles a day …. Our teacher was Miss Harrison, later becoming Mrs Pat McNamara, who lived in the area until she died. …… Mrs Taylor, where we always left our horses each day, was very kind and always gave us something to eat before we started the ride home."

What a fantastic Australia Day weekend in Barmedman!

Awards ceremonies, camping grounds at the Barmedman Mineral Pool full to overflowing, damper competitions, kayak races, BBQ's, yabby races at the Barmedman Bowling Club and lots of smiling faces!
