UPDATE ON OUR DAD:
First, we want to give an enormous THANK YOU to everyone for your unbelievable kindness, compassion, and generosity. Our family is overwhelmed by the support we’ve received since we launched the GoFundMe page, and we could not be any more grateful. Thank You! Thank you! Thank You!
We are also happy to report that our father is finally home! We picked him up from Green Hills Nursing facility on Wednesday and he has been spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids at his son Jason’s house since. The is the first time he has been out of a hospital, rehab facility, or skilled nursing facility since July 1. Understandably, he is still adjusting, but he is overcome with emotion to finally be home.
He started with his in-home care aid yesterday. We were told that although he is doing better, he still needs 24-hour care. The aid’s role is to help him with his daily activities (walking, dressing, eating, etc.) and to be a watchful eye as he works to become fully independent again. We will also start physical and occupational therapies at the house to help him get psychically and mentally stronger.
Great news… He is walking again! Before the incident happened, my father was virtually immobile due to his hurt back. About a week ago he received radiation on his back and it appears to have done the trick! It’s so great to see him moving around again (it’s always been hard for him to sit still).
We still have a long journey ahead of us as he needs to gain weight, get stronger, and continue to work on his mentation. He still gets very confused and forgetful, and needs a lot of reminders and prompting to do certain tasks. Also, not lost in all of this is his cancer treatment which we’ve had to pause since his incident on July 1. But nevertheless, it’s so great to see his smiling face at home again!
We wanted to say one more time… FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR FATHER AND OUR FAMILY!
