Glenda Sue Casey
Glenda Sue (Henderson) Casey, age 84, of Wayton passed away at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in the presence of her daughter Tammy with granddaughter Chloë on speaker phone.
Robert and Faye (Taylor) Henderson welcomed their baby girl in their home in Wayton on October 1, 1938. In her early years, Glenda was outgoing and loved to play basketball for Deer High School. She enjoyed singing gospel music and recorded two albums with her family musical group “The Henderson Family.”
Glenda was a charter member of the Wayton Baptist Church and took great delight in preparing Sunday dinner for her family, friends, and preachers. Her days were busy with cooking, baking, and cleaning her home. Many raved over Glenda’s cakes, pies, and cobblers both at her home where she loved to entertain and during her time working at the Cliff House. She was sure to have a pot of beans on the stove and pan of cornbread handy and something sweet in the oven. If you were lucky it would be blackberry cobbler or cinnamon rolls. When the haul was abundant, everyone would gather at Glenda’s house for a fish or squirrel fry and the bones would pile high. Glenda’s squirrel and chicken dumplings became quite famous among the community. Friends and family can all agree that you would never go hungry when visiting Glenda.
Glenda is leaving a legacy of love for sewing with her daughter Tammy as she taught her to operate a sewing machine. She also loved to hunt for ginseng and play cards, though the game of Rook was the only betting her conscience would allow. Glenda often stepped up to help her family in time of need.
Most recently, Glenda wrote the Wayton News column for the Newton County Times where she delighted readers with stories of her critters and interesting happenings of the community. She loved keeping up with her phone buddies and was often talking on it to someone.
She is preceded in death by her husband Chester Wayne, parents Robert and Faye (Taylor) Henderson, sister Mary Lou Ham, brothers Roy Earl, Garnet, and Sonny.
Glenda is survived by adopted daughter Tammy and her wife Christy, grandson Patrick, granddaughter Chloë, and great granddaughters Noё Faye and Aspen, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors that will mourn her passing.
Glenda's ashes will be placed next to her husband in the Wayton Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10 am at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper, Arkansas. Bring a song, story, picture, or poem to share in memory of Glenda. We can choose to remember better days. The entire community is invited to attend.
