The Maui event community needs your support more than ever!

Although West Maui is closed to allow for grieving, healing and support, the North, South and East sides of the island are open and welcome your business.

Many small businesses depend on weddings, events and the visitors they bring, and that hasn’t changed with the current situation. Weddings and events support local families and businesses by creating jobs in the community and generating much-needed revenue.

We understand that there are mixed messages and it can be confusing but please know that the majority of the small businesses and families on Maui are asking for your support and that means keeping your current wedding, event and travel plans.

If you are unsure how your local vendors feel you can reach out to them directly or through your wedding planner.  Most have been sharing their thoughts on social media.

When you do visit please, come with Aloha. Remember that the island still grieves this tragedy and all who were lost.

In lieu of gifts, consider asking your guests to donate to one of the organizations to assist those that have been affected by the fires.

And remember to please stay away from the West side out of respect for its residents and relief workers. Driving or sailing past Maalaea Harbor is unnecessary at this time.

Me Ke Aloha.

There is so much conflicting information about what the residents of Maui need and want when it comes to visitors right now. Here’s what I can tell you:

Maui IS open. And Maui needs you. The community is working diligently to adjust and adapt amidst the most unfathomable tragedy.

There are parts of the island - the West side and Kula, which are not able to accept visitors right now - but the rest of the island wants and needs to get back to work. They need to support their families. Hospitality is one of their biggest industries and it’s being hit HARD. By canceling plans altogether, it will cost them much more than they’ve already lost.

But here’s the thing: come with Aloha. Know that this community is grieving. The entirety of the loss hasn’t even begun to sink in yet and they need compassion, understanding and help. When you go, go with patience and kindness. Volunteer. Donate. Contribute.

If your wedding was scheduled to happen on the West side of Maui, please work with your vendors to determine the best course of action. POSTPONE, don’t cancel! Lahaina needs space to recover and heal, however, there are many properties on the South side (and other areas) of the island that may be able to take your date if it is soon, so lean into your vendors to figure out next steps vs. canceling.

Areas that are open and ready to welcome you:

Wailea
Kahului
Wailuki
Kihei
Hana
Paia
Pukalani
Makawao

I cannot begin to express how devastated we are at what has happened on Maui. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes or loved ones during this time. It’s taken me a few days to post because I’ve been using my resources as a planner to help organize and mobilize teams and donations on the ground. And honestly, I just couldn’t find the words. No words can truly describe how I am feeling right now. I am utterly heartbroken.

No matter how much we do, I don’t feel like it’s enough. So much more needs to be done to help those who have been displaced by the Maui fires. And we can’t do it on our own. I am calling on the international event community and former couples that have celebrated on this amazing island to support its community in this time of great need. Many of you enjoyed the beauty and Aloha that Maui brings to you and your guests during your celebrations. Now, Maui needs to feel your love. Many have already reached out asking how you can contribute to relief efforts on the island. I’ll be posting updates on how to help in the coming days but for now, these are the organizations that I am recommending for contributions. Your donations can immediately be received and dispersed to those in need:

🌺 Maui Mutual Aid Fund
https://rb.gy/109m5

🌺 Maui Rapid Response https://www.kanuhawaii.org/maui-wildfire/

🌺 Maui Strong Fund
https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/strengthening/maui-strong-fund

For those of you looking to support members of our event industry who have been impacted by the fires, please consider donating to the Search Foundation (https://searchfoundation.org/donate/) which can provide up to $5,000 of immediate money to event industry professionals in need. Those effected can also apply for aid themselves. A huge thank you to our colleague Sarah Roshan, Wedding Photographer for raising awareness of this valuable resource.

We are so blessed to have been given the opportunity to create celebrations on this beautiful island for nearly 10 years. Now, it is time to give back to our beloved ‘Ohana that is suffering and in dire need of critical supplies. No amount is too small. Anything is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to my partners, colleagues and friends for their tireless efforts and continued support. We are .

Me Ke Aloha

Candles played a central role in the reception design (in case you haven’t noticed). From : “Wedding planner Kimiko Hosaki worked with floral designer Mandy Grace Designs on long tables covered in light gray candles of alternating heights with Sichuan peppercorns filling their bases, and asymmetrical white floral centerpieces in between. Strands of white orchids laid out across (and in some cases above) the tables complemented the look.”

We’re getting a little nostalgic about one of our all-time favourite celebrations. The creative freedom we were given by the couple allowed us to integrate unique designs into that enhanced this stunning Maui venue. For the ceremony, a platform was installed at the entrance and large, wooden doors custom built into the archway - a vision brought to life by Jonas and his team at .events.maui. Photo: .co
