In 1973, as Harold Workman prepared for the following year’s inaugural North American Livestock Exposition (as it was called then), Roy Gibson of Feeder Supply Company was tasked with creating the iconic green shavings. 💜 As a friendly reminder, make sure that you have a BVD-PI test done for NAILE! It is a requirement that some of you may have missed when reading the information.

Some fun tips for those exhibiting on the green shavings this year :

1. Be sure to read every piece of communication that is sent out…. Twice.
2. RFID and BVD
3. Check in is before you ever get on the grounds, many folks are so excited they have arrived they just head for the main gate.
4. If you didn’t buy a K lot spot, bring your tennis shoes like the rest of us! It is a hike to tie outs.
5. Green shavings stain shoes. Lol
6. You will have to weigh junior cattle and some open breeds before you show so make sure you allow some extra time.
7. Historically in the weekend junior shows, class breaks aren’t posted until late the night before, hopefully that has changed this year. Those and your stalling are outside the beef office which is by Newmarket hall.
8. If given a sheet or form from a fair official and told to hold onto it…. Hold onto it!
9. If you aren’t in permanent tie-outs and are tying to your trailer…. You may be on blacktop. Chips are available bulk for tie out use. Most folks don’t know that. Call Feeder Supply and order when you get there.
10. Just like everywhere else… food is expensive. There is a McDonalds, Arbys, Little Caesars nearby. Our favorite is Franks deli next to McDonalds. There is a Kroger out gate 4 across from stadium. Also a Starbucks and Fed Ex there!

Competing on the iconic green shavings is a goal for many livestock exhibitors and horse riders/drivers at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The story behind how the shavings became that unique bright shade of green goes back more than a half-century to the early 1970s.

We're humbled to share that NAILE was once again voted by the people of the livestock industry as their Favorite Show. Thank you to all those who made the 50th year so special and competed on the green shavings in Louisville.

The Highland breed made a return to the GREEN SHAVINGS in Louisville and brought the heat! Our dedicated breeders and exhibitors showed the Derby City the strides that the breed has made in terms of progressive genetics and a new level of dedication to showing off our cattle.
With the first year under our belts, we are off to the races and look forward to making NAILE a "must stop" on the ROE Points circuit in years to come.
