“The Cake That Made Me Hold My Breath”
About 2 months ago I get a message from a dear Facebook friend, letting me know that he had an event coming up in February and wanted ME to make the cake. Okay, sounds good, but guess what, HE’S IN NEW YORK, I’M IN GEORGIA! Friend, I don’t ship decorated cakes. “Pound cakes? Yes. Custom, decorated cakes? Noooo…”. During this whole time since contacting me about the cake, he proceeded to tell me “yes, you can do it and it will be fine.” I told him I could fly with it and fly right back because I had other orders and an event to attend that week, or I could connect him with a baker near him. Nope. He wasn’t hearing it. (This is what happens when you have NY/NJ friends and family. 😂🤣 ❤️ They let you know that you can and will do anything you wanna do. The confidence is EVERYTHING.). Anyway, I sucked it up and made this 15”, alternating chocolate & vanilla layers, monster of a cake. It doesn’t look like it in the photo, but yes, it was 15.7 inches, total!! I prepped and supported it properly, then boxed and shipped it.
Let me tell y’all, the way my brain went into overdrive thinking of the way Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura treated those UPS boxes; I did not breathe until my phone rang to let me know it had arrived. When I saw it was him calling, my whole heart stopped 🤦🏽♀️. I slowly answered and all I heard after saying “Hello?”, was “Sis, you did your thang!!!” OMG!!!! It arrived in perfect condition!! I might have caught the Holy Ghost when my heart started beating again. 🤣.
Thank you Friend, for having more confidence in me than I even had in myself during this. Thank you for trusting me to come through like this from 900 miles away, for your “Roses” event. I am beyond grateful for this and all other opportunities to use my gift and creativity to spread so much joy and be apart of so many amazing events even when I personally am not even in the room. (I can’t ever add enough heart emojis to express this!)
He even called today to give me more details and reactions about the cake and looks like I may even have more sweet NY friends now. ❤️
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Also, Thank You to Jeri and FedEx, you all came through! 💪🏽.
