Six years ago, Jon and Tanesha reached out for some engagement pictures. We had a blast and they mentioned they were planning on getting married in Jamaica. I sweet talked them into taking me with them and it’s been magic and friendship ever since. Holiday photos, anniversary shots, baby bumps and newborn toes. Five years after they said I Do, and we’re still meeting up for dinner, photos, book club and bourbon. My legacy babes.

Though their affair began during a time of global strife, this author is proud to announce that true love and unending joy have grown from their adoration. Content attention: cancer. Rylan and I eloped in June. It was a really warm day, and we planned it in about two days. When we found out in May that I had cancer, we were reeling. Then we found out it was not the kind of cancer that can be cured, fixed, or eradicated from my body. Then, in mid June, we found out that my insurance wouldn’t pay for the surgery to help prolong my life— a surgery that could cost $25,000, or $85,000, depending on what they saw when they got in there. So on Tuesday, we cried. On Wednesday, Rylan talked to HR. On Thursday, we got our marriage license. And on Sunday afternoon, we became husband and wife with 10 loved ones in attendance and on FaceTime. My 70-year-old dad took our wedding photos, so they’re all crooked and I can’t fix the horizon line. And they’re perfect. A weird, skewed way to get married, but lovingly crafted with care. It was one of the best days, and I’ll never forget it. Especially when my stick on b***s slid down my sweaty body and stuck to my ribs and hip bones halfway through the ceremony 😂

I GOT MARRIED!!!! On Saturday, the sweetest love bloomed in a rainy tent in one of my favorite places: my parents’ house. This year has been so tough for us— the cancer, the surgeries, finding out more bad news than we can handle— but Saturday was an incredible celebration filled with joy. Forever grateful to the people who helped us pull this magical day off!!
