Originating in Scotland in the 16th and 17th centuries, a handfasting ceremony was a way to make a contract with your beloved. In other words: marry him or her.

Today, the cords don't hold quite as much legal meaning but they can still be a special way to honor this milestone. As a modern celebrant for some couples who appreciate the symbol of unity. By using carefully-selected cords of various colors that represent different promises to one another, couples, like D&J, choose to begin the start of their married life tied together.

Another great way to make your wedding ceremony interesting is to forego the traditional ring bearer (sorry, Best Man, but it’s one less thing to worry about, isn’t it?). Why not get your children to hand them over, or your mums together? In fact, why stop at humans?

Why not get your dog to be your ring bearer and bring them down the aisle? If your pet is a big part of your life at home, they can definitely be a big part of your day too... And this is what A&T chose to do...

One of my favorite ceremony ritual is called the time capsule. Your capsule is meant to be sealed during your wedding ceremony and opened only on your 5th year wedding anniversary.

Your time capsule can include whatever you want... Some simply contain a sealed love letter detailing your hopes for the future, from each of you, and perhaps a bottle of wine so that you can enjoy a drink, together, when you reopen the capsule.

I personally love to include some love letters from your closest friends and family so you can make them feel included during this special moment...
