How much does this cake cost?
This is the number one question I get asked.
It is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, you see every cake is different when making custom cakes. In the 8 years I have been doing this I have never made exactly the same cake twice. I may have made variations but never the same.
So a little look into how my day was today:
4 and a half dozen eggs.
9 kgs flour.
1 kg cocoa.
2 kg vegetable oil.
Baking powder.
Also baking paper to line trays.
Add in electricity, gas and water.
So far 7 hours work and haven’t even started construction of cake yet.
Then add in time for quoting, invoicing and answering questions regarding the design.
This is just for one cake this week and yes it is a big cake and I cannot wait to show you all but it gives a little picture that it is not ‘Just a cake’.
I cannot charge per hour like an electrician or plumber (I would be a millionaire if I could! ).
Yet I have put in hours to learn and perfect my craft.
Part of why I do this is because I love to create and help with people’s special celebrations, some of the reactions I have had especially from kids over the years makes all the long hours totally worth it!
So I take this part to please ask when asking for a quote please be patient, I cannot often answer straight away, I could be busy constructing a cake, working or heaven forbid spending time with my family. No I will not respond to requests sent at 10 pm on a Sunday night but I will answer as soon as possible.
Please be mindful I am a one woman show, I am cook, designer, quoter, bill payer, product tester, student and sometimes teacher. I am only human and yes at times I make mistakes but please be respectful, I will endeavour to correct at all times where possible.
