If youâve recently been searching for your wedding photographer or plan to soon, chances are youâve used the word âcandidâ to describe how you want your photos to look.
Itâs no surprise that everyone wants their wedding photos to capture joy and emotion and authentic, real momentsâŚ
Itâs also no secret amongst wedding vendors that it is SO easy for couples to fall into the trap of TRYING to achieve candid. Requesting long lists of specific photo moments and putting a lot of pressure on capturing specific âmust haveâ photos.
Hereâs the thing - you canât TRY at candid. The entire essence of the word means that it just IS. The moments simply happen because you just ARE.
So how do you avoid the trap of trying to achieve candid in a way that inevitably becomes stressful or disappointing?
Book the right photographer. Trust them. Let go. An experienced photographer is going to capture the must haves by default. And if you let them do their thing, theyâll capture the true, genuine, candid moments of your day as they unfold.
Like your reaction when you enter your reception with everyone you love cheering for you.
Like the serenity of sneaking away for a walk with your new husband or wife, just the two of you.
Like the pure, uninhibited laughter at your sisterâs hilarious maid of honor toast.
Like the FUN of a mom dancing with her son on his wedding day, a long awaited moment.
Like the flower girl making an impromptu decision to carry a duck sculpture she found on the porch down the aisle instead of the flowers youâd planned for.

This suite is full of custom touches and subtle nods to the city. The toile featuring all things Boston, little ducklings guiding guests through weekend events, and trolley transportation card are all such sweets to welcome guests for the wedding weekend. Classic but whimsical, traditional but fun. The perfect way to sum up O&N and their perfect day. â¨

This past weekend I kicked off my 9th (!!!) wedding season as Kelly Golia Events, and was reminded yet again that not only do I love what I do, it fulfills so much of who I am as a person.
While swooning over some details during set up with and trying to capture the magic on our phones, we sighed and said âPhotos will just never do it justiceâŚâ
And it hit me then - isnât that the magic of events? They are meant to be experienced fully in person, and a celebration that is truly, thoughtfully designed and planned can transport guests from their day-to-day into moments where they are genuinely present.
From the glow of candlelight, to the scent of fresh flowers, to the taste of exquisitely curated menus chosen especially by a couple for their guests to enjoy. From the sound of the band striking up the first dance song, to the feeling of generations-long memories being made. It is not lost on me that what I do is unbelievably special.
I am beyond grateful to the 80+ couples and their families who have welcomed me into their lives over the past 9 years and allowed me to celebrate alongside them, and to the insanely talented vendors who have brought every vision to life. How lucky am I to have built a career that feels like celebrating every single day?

A love letter to our Galentines â¤ď¸
On Friday, friend and fellow planner and I hosted our beloved Galentines Celebration. The foundation of this event has always been creative collaboration in the name of community over competition, and celebrating the women in our local wedding community who give their hearts and souls to the work they do.
The absolute MAGIC that this incredible group of women created is nothing short of mind blowing. Teams consisting of planners, designers, florists, stationers, and photographers dreamed up inspired visions for stunning tablescapes using elements from and . Each working off the same design prompt, we created 5 wildly unique table designs for our guests to enjoy.
Hair and makeup teams glammed up participants who were decked out in their chicest pajamas. Guests enjoyed tarot card readings and permanent jewelry applications, and were spoiled with locally crafted gifts from some fave women-owned businesses. Megan captured the day flawlessly and shared our work with you all in real time.
Our venue partners supplied the perfect setting for our pajama party chic inspiration, and guests enjoyed overnight stays in their charming airstreams.
blew us away with their culinary take on classic sleepover foods (I wish you could taste it all!) and the yummiest desserts and candy spreads imaginable. Dare I say that their strawberry margarita was the best Iâve ever had?!
This event is a reminder that creative collaboration, intentional partnership, genuine kindness, and enthusiastic passion for creating beauty is what makes our industry shine. When we support and uplift our community with a shared love of the work we do, we create actual magic.

Iâm a big believer in designing with intention - not doing things just for the sake of doing them. A favorite example is this welcome sign we created for Eric and Ryanâs wedding.
When they bought their first home together, Ryan proposed to Eric on the front steps. Soon after, they began a major renovation that led to some surprises, including a stash of these old wooden doors from around the home. We loved the idea of incorporating a piece of this chapter of their lives into their wedding design, and so we used one of the doors as a welcome sign to great guests to their ceremony.
Adorned with magnolia leaf garland from and a quote that felt like the perfect representation of their journey together, it made for a perfectly simple yet oh-so-meaningful detail of their day.
So design with intention. Think outside the box. Make your wedding your own. When you design with meaningful details, your wedding day feels like home. â¨
Eight years and I still like you a lot. â¨
Pro tip: find yourself friends who adore you as much as Allieâs adore her. These women are friendship goals to the MAX, and one of my favorite parts of Allie and Seanâs wedding day was hearing everyone gush about how perfect they are together as a couple. I couldnât agree more.

The foundation of KGEâs wedding design philosophy is that every detail should be intentional - whether it serves a specific function, tells the story of you, or both.
Our bride Chelsea loves candles, and we adored the idea of incorporating a signature scent into the day - something a little tropical to help transport g
We custom ordered scented candles from , and created individual labels with each guestâs name and table number to guide them to their seats for dinner. The candle tins served double duty as favors so that every time guests light theirs at home, they âwill feel a glow just thinking ofâŚâ Chelsea and Davidâs unforgettable wedding day.
And in case you hadnât picked up on it yet, the line we chose to tell this story was perfectly plucked from their first dance song, âThe Way You Look Tonightâ. â¨

Itâs not really any secret - the past three years in the events industry have been an especially wild ride. I happened to throw a baby and adapting to the motherhood / business ownership balance in the mix, so to say Iâve felt like Iâm treading water for a looong time is an understatement.
This summer I have a unique kind of season - a âbreakâ now until mid October when we wrap up 2023 with two more spectacularly special celebrations. If you know any wedding planners you know there never really is a true âdown timeâ between seasons, but during a time of year that is usually thrillingly packed with wedding days and final details and long hours and high emotions, I feel grateful for a chance to catch up and breathe.
What does that look like? A reinvigorated outlook on the future of Kelly Golia Events, a reignited passion for the magic we create for our couples, and an unwavering enthusiasm for celebrating alongside some of the most wonderful people youâll ever meet.
Having the space to truly, deeply dream big again is beyond exciting, and I hope our remaining 2023 and 2024 couples are ready - because Iâve never felt this more strongly: the best of KGE is yet to come. â¨

For Chelsea and Davidâs stationery design, crafted a custom crest featuring the national flowers of Japan and Colombia - a tribute to both the brideâs and groomâs heritage. We carried this special detail throughout the wedding design, including labels on candles that incorporated a signature wedding day scent in the form of both favors and es**rt cards, guiding guests to their tables. Together with Boston imagery and a palette that told a story of âelevated yet approachable resort chicâ, the entire day felt so personalized to our bride and groom.
