The 2024 winner of the coveted Holliwood Waffle Iron.
Congratulations to Whiskey Bob Taylor & the Twelve Steps !
Another short vid from the Jug Jam at Palmer's Bar .
Here's a real gem! A tape of the 2nd Annual Battle of the Jug Bands has been unearthed. This battle was held at the New Riverside Cafe on Sunday, Dec 27th, 1981.
Here is the winning performance by "The Sorry Muthas", starring Bill Hinkley and Judy Larson with an impromptu lineup for the day of some 11 musicians including notable West Bank folks like Billy Golfus, Cal Hand and Ralph Witkoff. On the tape it seems they might have called themselves "Little Village" that day. The Holliwood waffle iron (engraved much later by Bob Stelnicki) records the band's name as the "Golden Calf Jug Army"
Enjoy!
Third place in the 2023 Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands went to Whiskey Bob and the 12 Steps, coming to us direct from Chicago, IL.
Always a force to reckon with, note that their washboard player took home this year's "Juggernaut" award for playing with other bands throughout the day -- an award that had previously been won in 2021 by their jug player, Miss Haley.
P.S.: A big thanks to Tom Michaels for his audiovisual recording and editing contributions.

Here's that Holliwood winning performance by Dr. Kickbutt's Orchestra of Death at the 2023 Minneapolis Annual Battle of the Jug Bands!
P.S.: much gratitude to Tom Michaels for his audiovisual recording and editing contributions!
A real blast from the past! One of the first two bands who started the Annual Minneapolis Battle Of The Jug Bands was Will Donicht's band "Mama's Home Cooking". They recorded this tune in 1974.
We are going to draw for the battle now.
