It’s one of those kind of days, waiting for the storm

I missed so I’m doing my own

Off to hospital for another Comforter session visiting a relative. Who knew my first visits would be for my close family instead of wider community

What are you giving yourself permission to do today?

When schedules allow, I deep dive into being an artist

And the more I do the more I want to

So this is big news. Link in post to donate and let’s see how many we can reach

It reminds me of the story about saving washed up starfish. When the child is told but you can’t save a whole beach full, she replies “ but I can save this one” as she returns it to the water

How many people will we reach? How many people can we help with ideas that are borne from our own recovery?

I for one am excited to find out. And thank you xx

And we are off. Please share, donate even a £1 and let’s see where this goes

And if you want to nominate anyone who would like to benefit please reach out

Thanks to everyone who has responded and I’m excited to see how many we can support

Inspiration

Paintings in particular are vistas into our imagination

They offer us glimpses of other ways of being. Offering opportunity to see other ways of seeing

They remind us of places we have been or places yet to discover. They take us deep into our own unique experiences and offer chances of connection

Echoes of our souls deep knowing
And if you take the time, the visual becomes visceral

I’m mastering sewing on the machine
Love EPP for making scrappy quilts
But doing fancy stitches has evaded me till now

A new year musing from Adam inspired me to pull me finger out and drop my shoulder into taking a stitch a day for the year

So after learning stitches such as stem and fly, I thought it’s time to challenge myself to applying it

Marking not just stitches

Legacy and heritage

This fused glass pendant was given to me by a lady I worked for, when I was a housekeeper in Cornwall. If you’ve never tried fused glass it’s such fun. Fiddly and some swearing later, you can get some great results. And it’s one of those activities when time just doesn’t exist. I once spent a whole morning selecting colours and making placements. And then the magic of opening the kiln. Pure joy

And my beloved Sennen Cove Gansey pattern, I haven’t forgotten you. When I launched “Fishing Yarns”, charting patterns of British Heritage knitting, there was no Instagram. So as I return to the patterns, I’ll share more

This is being knitted with Farm to Yarn wool (not on Insta) from sheep fleece from AONB Arnside and Silverdale by Kate Schofield, a lady I’ve know since moving to the North West in 2012.

And what will it be? All will be revealed soon

What else do you do when you are waiting in the van, in the pouring rain, waiting for someone to come back from the shops, praying and hoping the frozen items are still frozen by the time you get to your destination!

And really weird, knitting on long straight needles. I realise I have been in a circular mode these past few months and excited to be knitting one of my favourites. There is something about sticking to the traditional pattern but yet something exciting about redesign.

Watch out for what will be the latest

Nothing is ever wasted

I rediscovered some a Fish and Chip Jumpers and hats from our Canvas and Thread events and sent them to Rachel for their appeal. They are making puppets to send to India and appealing for hats and scarves for Sea Farers

Oh how I’d love to return to India, maybe I’ll do the deliver. And maybe the scarves for Sea Farers will be adorned with the patterns of the British Isles, our heritage in stitches

Cath s Capes made for Barrow Food Bank Winter appeal winging their way to new homes and more wool donations to sort.

And when you re getting to the end of your yarn and need a stronghold, top of boot will do.

Our Story

Allium Arts. based in Grange over Sands, in the South Lakes district of the Lake District, in Cumbria, UK, is a group promoting and encouraging creative arts, through personal tuition, groups, workshops and decorative art fairs.

Why the Allium? not just because we know our onions, more that the head of a blossom has individual heads that form the whole flower head. So as individuals coming together we can blossom, cross fertilising ideas amongst us, collaborating and cultivating fresh approaches.

We gather on a monthly basis and for more details of how to register contact Catherine on 07957 861408 or by email to [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you soon
