Inspiration comes from observation

I challenged myself to pick a card and draw what I saw and as I did I could see a pattern emerging

I’m thinking a shawl. Loving the blues and purples popping with the reds and oranges

Thank you and

“If you could paint jazz, it would surely look something like this: the geometric shapes seem to ignite the colour of soul and song, pace and flow, rhythm and mood. For me these quilts are a great example of how something functional can become decorative and desirable; indeed, how high art can be created out of humble scraps of cloth that carry stories and memories.”

Molly Martin, The Art of Repair on the collection of Gee’s Bend Quilts from Alabama

Craving a community to share such delights with
Holding hope and having faith of stitch dates to come

For now Tiger, Tess and a timetables, however changeable will aid my quilt making

Enjoying the not bothering to measure to make a pattern, allowing it to emerge

Ending and new beginnings

A gift of yarn made into something wearable

Remembering Dad, knitting was “organised fidgeting” a writer, a wordsmith and made life enchanting with this observation

I hope you are remembering those whom have passed with as many smiles and happy tears for having known them

Our Story

Allium Arts. based in Grange over Sands, in the South Lakes district of the Lake District, in Cumbria, UK, is a group promoting and encouraging creative arts, through personal tuition, groups, workshops and decorative art fairs.

Why the Allium? not just because we know our onions, more that the head of a blossom has individual heads that form the whole flower head. So as individuals coming together we can blossom, cross fertilising ideas amongst us, collaborating and cultivating fresh approaches.

We gather on a monthly basis and for more details of how to register contact Catherine on 07957 861408 or by email to [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you soon
