Welcome to the world of books with wooden memory. If you appreciate handmade objects with soul and history, you are in the right place. Here, antique wood and recycled paper find a new platform for unexpected coexistence. Transformed and bound together, they create a special space for your words, images, or sketches. Recently you can find also other unique objects created from pieces of old furnit

ure or local wood. We search for pieces of damaged, antique furniture that have already served for generations and are destined to be burned or demolished. We keep them and carefully work them into the format of future book cover or other creation. Hana uses the beautiful and rich wood for her carvings or she completes it with authentic accents. Each cover is unique and one of a kind. . All books are then hand bound by coptic stitch using mostly recycled paper as reutilization is base of Lacuna's philosophy. I did not expect this day to bring me so much nostalgia... Searching for one of my old pieces in this fb gallery I realized I am already one hour falling down in time. What a journey! I never counted how many books I´ve made over the last 18 years...Hundreds. Each one different. I still remember the ecstasy of selling my first book on-line. Like a star in darkness for somebody who ended up in a foreign country, in a foreign village, with a little baby and an art degree 😁. My children grew up with wood dust and the smell of beeswax, traveling in a car full of smelly old furniture torsos, holding books for photos, and jumping on my back when my online work took too many hours.

Custom made blank journal with wooden needle. All the wood is reclaimed from old Portuguese furniture. The journal is filled with heavy recycled sheets.

Fragments of an old wooden wardrobe were used for creating of this large, hand engraved photo album. It is bound using Coptic stitch and the book can be fastened with unique closure also made from furniture fragments. See more at lacunawork.com.
