Thank you to all of the mums who have shown us the way, who have led by example, whose hopes have made us the people we've become and who have stood by us throughout the roller coaster of life. To all of the courageous and amazing women I have been lucky enough to meet in my work as a celebrant, all of the incredible women I have had the privilege of being able to write and conduct a service for, plus the fantastic women in my life that I'm thrilled to call my family, friends and colleagues. International women's Day is about recognising and thanking you all. ❤️❤️

As you all know, I'm a bit rubbish with posting things on facebook, especially as I rarely have the time, but I just felt that it was needed. Yesterday, I had the privilege of taking a service for a lovely lady, whose husband's service I had very sadly also taken, only 11 months ago.

The FD I worked alongside was the incredible Ashley Aldrige from Willows Funeral Services. Willows are an independent family owned business, who also have branches in Henfield (as Henfield Funeral Services) and St Leonards-On-Sea. They pride themselves upon their excellent, client focused service and I can't praise, or recommend them, and Ashley, highly enough.

During the service, I was also thrilled to hear the wonderful voice of jazz singer, Claire Martin OBE, who was accompanied by the equally fantastic guitarist, Nigel Price. Their live contribution towards the service couldn't have been more perfect and Claire's voice, which sounded as rich, smooth and silky as melted chocolate, blended beautifully with Nigel's gorgeous baritone guitar. It was an absolute treat and one of which I know the lady in question would have loved.

My thanks must obviously go to Claire and Nigel, plus Ashley (as always) but I would also like to send my love and thanks to the family. To the couple's two daughters, who are lovely and have been extraordinary throughout, especially with everything they've been through over the past year, their grandsons, who lovingly and gently carried their grandmother's coffin in to the chapel, and to their granddaughter, who gave the most moving and beautiful tribute to her grandma. I know that your parents and grandparents would have been even more proud of you than they always were.

It was an honour to be a small part of such an important day. The obvious closeness and love of the family and friends who attended, only served to remind me of the reason why I chose this career ❤️

❤️ "If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember.....You are braver than you believe. Stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the most important thing, is even if we are apart I'll always be with you".❤️

What a perfect venue to hold a Celebration of Life memorial for an extremely talented man. He had links to many theatres but first worked at the beautiful Hippodrome theatre as a Stange Manager in the sixties. I was privileged to receive a request to meet up with him long before his very sad death and had a wonderful time hearing about his fascinating life and his very precise wishes once his final moment arrived.

As he did, always think outside of the box. Talk to your family or friends about your wishes and don't ever feel constrained by conventionality, concern about what others may think, or what is deemed 'appropriate'. As with a wedding, a funeral or memorial service should always feel personal and should never be about others. Just remember that nothing is wrong if it's right for you. ❤️

A huge thank you to the family for being amazing throughout and for asking me to be your celebrant, to Alex and Debbie Adams at the wonderful Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne for providing the venue and to Stuart French and the front of house staff for their hard work and support.

The perfect goodbye was achieved by all. ⭐️

My very relaxed and comfy outfit for taking a funeral this afternoon!

The gentleman was a rigger for years and toured the world with many well known groups and individual artists. The family thought it a fitting tribute to ask people to wear band t-shirts and jeans, or bright clothing, so I was more than happy to oblige. 🎶

Never think that you can't ask your celebrant to wear something in particular, or a specific colour, as we love to join in (apart from being naked! I don't want people throwing up during the service!). It's important to make sure that every service (whatever type it may be) is fully personalised to the person, people, or family, so if a celebrant refuses to accommodate your request, then maybe you need to look for someone else.

How lucky am I? These stunning flowers were sent to me by some very lovely clients of mine.
David and his daughter, Julie, felt like good friends from the first moment I met them and so it was an absolute pleasure to write and take the Celebration of Life for the amazing and funny lady who had been their wife and mother. I can't thank them enough for their kind words and generosity, and truly appreciate their wonderful gesture of thanks. What a privilege it is to do my job. ❤️

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing Dads out there.
