There are two questions I get asked more than any others. The first is, 'What is a Celebrant?'. Now I'm guessing that if you're looking for one, you probably know what one is, but if you don't, I'm always happy to explain, or you can have a read through my web site instead. Actually, the official Cambridge dictionary explanation of a Celebrant is, 'A person who leads a ceremony such as a wedding, or funeral', so it's a fairly straightforward answer it seems! The second question is, 'What do people normally do?', or 'What are we expected to do?'. My answer to this is easy.....there is no 'normal' and you're not 'expected' to do anything! The whole point of hiring a Celebrant, is so that you can do things in whatever way you want, be it a wedding, funeral, child naming, vow renewal, or in fact, any ceremony you would like to hold. What's perfect for one person, will be another's nightmare, which is why any half decent Celebrant will always tailor-make the ceremony to the client. These days no-one should ever feel that they have to do something, because it's 'expected', or 'traditional'. Things have changed, so if you want traditional, that's perfectly ok, but if you don't, that's fine too. As far as I'm concerned, the more theatrical (my background, so I love it!) or unusual, the better, particularly with weddings where virtually anything goes. However I'm also more than happy to provide a short, personal and simple ceremony if required - as I said, it's entirely up to the client. So remember.....if you want it, you can have it, just ask!
