A deep dive into 20 top subsidized NPO theatres by on an average night uncovered a big gender gap in key creative roles. *In UK theatre, only 22% of lighting designers are women, and sound design at an even fewer percentage at just 17%. It’s a clear sign the industry has a lot of work to do.

Further backed by research by a LORT study by Porsche McGovern finding women only held 17.1% of lighting positions and 11% of sound positions across 5 seasons.

At Petok, we’re here to challenge this narrative. These stats are disappointing and in desperate need of change. This is why we wanted to create a community that’s all about lifting up women, trans, and non-binary professionals in backstage roles.

Because every voice deserves to shine, and every talent deserves its moment in the spotlight (or operating one!) ⚡️

We are honored to announce PETOK PRODUCTIONS is one of “The Creatives,” new Youth To The Front Fund (YTTFF) Frontliners! This program breaks barriers by supporting youth-led initiatives that creatively challenge systemic injustice or inequality.

As part of “The Creatives,” PETOK PRODUCTIONS addresses the inequality and lack of diversity for Women, Trans and Non-binary people working backstage.

Since its 2020 launch after the murder of George Floyd, YTTFF has backed 90+ Front-liners from 35+ countries across 6 continents who are at the forefront of fighting systemic racism, inequality, inequity and injustice around the world.

Inspired by activism and creative work, YTTFF now extends its support to “The Creatives,” illuminating the transformative power of art to shape the future and reclaim the essence of humanity.
