⚠️ GEORGE COUNTY, via George County Board of Supervisors and George County MS Emergency Management:
In advance of low temperatures and possible severe weather conditions; George County is announcing an overnight cold weather "Safe Haven" at the Agricola Storm Shelter (3161 Cooks Corner Road) starting on Sunday, January 19 at 4 p.m. for residents.
The County's EMA Office has been in steady contact with the National Weather Service, the State, and County Supervisors in advance of this system and its changing forecast.
This Safe Haven is for any residents concerned about prolonged overnight freezing temperatures and exposure to wind chill throughout the area. Residents should check-in or register in person by 8 p.m. on site.
The County's Agricola Facility will provide a warm stay, lighted parking, access to power for cellphone/smart phone/tablet charging, public restrooms, public tap water, tables & chairs, and staffing. It is important to note; a Safe Haven is not a prolonged storm event shelter.
Residents need to bring their own bedding (sleeping bag, blanket, cot, etc.), snacks & food, and all medications.
The Cold Weather Safe Haven will remain open all night for citizens in need, but will close at 8 pm on Sunday, January 19, if no one is registered or using the facility.
If needed, the Agricola Cold Weather Safe Haven will also be available on Monday, January 20, 2025 starting at 4 p.m.
