CALL TO SUPPORTERS (and to those who want to help contact them!) đź’Ś we're raising funds!

Wanna help us move $ into the hands of 20 local working class artists? We're hoping that businesses, organizations, & folks who have a lot will mainly foot this bill, but wanted to put it out there to show what's brewing & what we do in the background. If folks want to learn how we fundraise & help us do it, please reach out!

By contributing, you are helping us:
- Pay local, living, marginalized, working class artists
- Keep our offerings sliding scale
- Fund future programs which further support these folks and arts programming that is also accessible to the public
We've reached out via email to local individuals, supporters, businesses, and organizations that are aligned with our values to ask for support covering costs, but wanted to post here too!

Celebrate845 will be creating a series of printed postcards that will feature both visual art & works of writing created by marginalized artists living or working in the Hudson Valley region. (Open call dropping soon if we can raise the funds! We applied for an Arts Mid Hudson grant but were denied, so pivoting.)

Each artist involved (20 total) will be offered a $50 honorarium for their work & the postcards themselves will help share their work far & wide. They'll be available using a “sliding scale” model, meaning consumers can “pay what they can” anywhere from $0 - $15 per postcard pack, based on their own self assessment of needs and ability. All funds raised through sales will go toward paying artists, recouping any costs fronted, and to future Celebrate845 programming & efforts.

If you have questions or want to receive information, email [email protected]

We appreciate you đź’–

Recently, active AK Press collective members had the unique opportunity to spend a week meeting together all in one place. It was a valuable time for us to strengthen ourselves as a collective, a publishing house and a political project. We ended our visit thankful for each other, our readership, supporters, and with big hopes for the future of AK Press.

The new mural located at 181 Broadway in Newburgh is generating a lot of conversation and we want to talk about the companies behind it.

Seraphim Equities and Fidelity Real Estate commissioned the mural on one of their buildings, not out of the love they hold for this city, but to profit off of it. They own at least 85 properties in Newburgh, listed as Newburgh SHG 1- 85 LLC , 1 through 19 are on the county tax records and you can find up to Newburgh SHG 85 LLC on business look up sites. All are registered to the same person, Adam Shayanfekr, president of Seraphim Equities.

As a local in Newburgh, I know some of the people who USED to live at these buildings. They were evicted, so renovations could be done to flip these properties to the highest bidder.

The purpose of this and future murals commissioned by Seraphim Equities is to "beautify" an area they have already displaced residents from, so that their 85+ properties can be sold for a bigger profit to prospective gentrifiers, easily woo'd by the thought of an "up and coming" and "hip" Newburgh.

So whether you like the mural or not, think it should've been done by a local, instead of some one from out of town, it's important that you know WHY this real estate company is commissioning these pieces.
